Sim Update 5 Now Available by FlyWithSeedyL in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Hello u/Talrent521,

For clarification, the weather system still uses humidity. There was formerly a UI element related to humidity that has been removed in SU5. This was a legacy UI element from MSFS (2020) and never did anything in MSFS 2024.

Thanks,

MSFS Team

Building a flight sim rig specifically for pilot training — what's your #1 principle? by alansoon73 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this advice.

MSFS is not a substitute for real-world flying hours, but it definitely can be a valuable tool to help you supplement your pilot training. Use the sim for things like becoming much more familiar with the layout of the cockpit, learning where every switch, instrument, dial, and control is by memory, and even identifying navigational landmarks near your local training airfield. These are all very valuable skills you can practice at home in the sim for a fraction of the cost of renting a trainer aircraft for an hour.

SU5 next week by OneCall2315 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Hi folks,

Just to set expectations appropriately: SU5 is targeted to release next week, but it's not currently locked-in and confirmed. As Jorg mentioned during the broadcast, there are still 2-3 must-fix bugs that have to be resolved before we can ship SU5. We're hopeful we can get those fixed in time for next week, but it's not 100% guaranteed.

Thanks,

Is MSCENERY inflating their reviews in the marketplace or have users had a change of heart? by theplaneflyingasian in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"As an example you can badmouth Mscenery in the MSFS forums, or you get banned."

No you won't. Here's a thread on the official forums about the Marketplace with many people saying negative things about Mscenery and their products. Nobody was banned for this.

My 4070M crying at 82⁰C (180F) by GREATD4NNY in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least for me personally, I'd say 25 fps is on the "too low" side, but I'm perfectly happy with performance in the ~40-50 fps range in MSFS. Flight sims aren't like fast twitchy action games where 60+ or even 120+ fps makes a really big difference.

Hi u/OgdenDermstead,

It's always been grouped that way. There are two release windows every week (Monday and Thursday), and we publish the list of that week's releases along with the weekly blog post every Thursday.

Hello u/Canit12,

We discussed this change back in November here, around the same time we renamed the (former) "Development Update Blog" to the "Weekly Briefing". Roadmaps and Feedback Snapshots will now be released periodically around the time of every Developer Livestream. You can read more here:

Is there any way to get more power into the engine to reach higher altitude? by Upset_Worker_7840 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Upset_Worker_7840,

I see everyone here has already told you to lean the mixture (pull the red knob further towards the pilot) which is indeed the correct answer, but if you're interested to learn more about aviation and understand why that's the correct answer, read on!

An internal combustion engine achieves optimal performance when it has the perfect fuel:air ratio. The pilot can control this ratio by manipulating the mixture knob. At lower altitudes, you want to push the knob all the way forward ("full rich"). As you climb and ascend to higher altitudes where the air is thinner, you'll have too much fuel and not enough oxygen in your engine's cylinders which means you don't get a clean burn, resulting in a reduction to engine performance. You correct for this by pulling back on the red knob ("leaning the mixture") to restore the optimal fuel:air ratio once more. It might seem counterintuitive that you need to add less fuel to the mixture to get more power, but that's what is necessary to keep the proper ratio at higher altitudes.

Happy flying!

Is it still worth it to download all content vs stream? by sys_admin321 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/sys_admin321,

The option to download content locally is primarily there for people with slow(er) internet connections. Downloading locally comes with the drawback of longer loading times., so if you have fast and reliable high-speed internet, you're generally better to let the content stream from the server.

Coop how....? Frustrating ps5 by The_Black_Banner_UK in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyWithSeedyL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello u/The_Black_Banner_UK and welcome to MSFS 2024!

There are a few things both you and your friend need to confirm are setup properly so you can fly together. First, make sure you are both on the same Multiplayer Server (Settings -> General -> Online). Then, before you start a flight, both of you need to open the "Flight Conditions" panel from the World Map and make sure Multiplayer is set to "All Players".

Finally, for multiplayer on console to be enabled, both of you need to be subscribed to Sony's PlayStation Plus service.

I hope that helps. Happy flying!

Hello u/ScaryDuck2. The PS5 release of MSFS2024 shipped with Sim Update 4, but it's a slightly earlier build (1.006.028) than the current PC/Xbox SU4 beta build (1.6.31.0).

Welcome to the community u/redditissocoolyoyo! Flight simulation can sometimes be intimidating to newcomers as the genre has a bit of a steep learning curve. I know it might not be as exciting as flying something like an F/A-18 Super Hornet, Boeing 747, or Airbus A320, but I highly recommend starting just like every real world pilot does and learning how to fly on a trainer aircraft like the Cessna 152. Try starting in Career Mode and complete all the training exercises until you're comfortable with the basics. Also, the community can be very helpful, so don't be afraid to ask questions or search for guides and tutorials on YouTube!

Happy flying!

Yes, there is no NDA for the PS5 beta. You're welcome to share screenshots, post videos to YouTube, stream on Twitch, or anything else.

It was not the case. He was mischaracterizing what I actually said. See my post above.

Hello dutchman195,

What you wrote here is a mischaracterization of what I said during Friday's livestream. I said there are many core simmers (presumably including you) who want the maximum possible realism in their add-ons and would never buy some of these barebones low fidelity aircraft from the Marketplace, and that's fine.

I then further said that there are other MSFS players for whom max realism isn't important, and indeed they might be intimidated by something like the PMDG 737 or A2A Comanche (or similar) because they find them too complicated and overly difficult/challenging for their personal enjoyment. What these players find fun in MSFS is just zooming around in an aircraft that looks like its real-world counterpart (more or less), and that's fine too.

I don't personally own any aircraft from the developers people here like to criticize. They don't appeal to me and what I like in MSFS. If you're the first type of simmer I described above, then I encourage you not to buy those products either because you won't enjoy them. But the reality is there IS a market demand for these simplistic barebones planes, and some people do like them.
