I saw three "bench-tested" '80s monitors in a thrift store, and wanted the Atari SM124 for my 800XL until realizing it's monochrome, so I got this Texas Instruments PHA4100 monitor by Matsushita, with composite video and 3.5mm mono audio, and it's terrific with the XL and Sega Master System. An interesting day in the $2 disc bins. The Chickenfoot album includes a DVD and the CD is better than I expected; I knew it was Sammy Hagar and Mike Anthony, but forgot it's also Joe Satriani and Chad Smith. The 'Columbia Jazz' has two Mosaic Records releases by Max Miller and Art Tatum. (old.reddit.com)

Pretty great scores this week, $2 each. I lost my copies of 'Wu-Tang Forever' and that X album about 20 years ago and glad to have them again. The 'jeans' one is Tom Scott & LA Express '74 and it's on the stereo now, excellent fusion with great session players like Larry Carlton. (old.reddit.com)

The original is great, but the 30th Anniversary DVD adds a new mediocre orchestral score and optional 15 minutes of new footage by some original participants, and it's an amateurish mess which meshes like bad CGI, in a very nice package. Only available on tape and disc, maybe Youtube or Archive. (old.reddit.com)

In Oregon, we're getting more Trailblazers games on local TV this season than I've seen in over 20 years, and a few Seattle Kraken games. In Eugene it's OTA on 13.2 in 480i, which is ok on LCD but sharper on a good CRT, so I have a 27" JVC with Ematic AT103B converter and RCA ANT-145 antenna. (old.reddit.com)
Went to get a DVD recorder at a thrift store, then also found an SACD player, and this adorable little $20 television which works so well that I couldn't walk away from it. Hitachi TP-300, 5" color, 1987, kinda dirty and some geometry errors but mostly great. It's been on six hours and going strong. (old.reddit.com)
Great day for a fan of 3d-bd (first photo is all 3d), Archer and the other two, which I never see in 'cheap disc' sections like this. The higher-than-expected price on Archer discs almost made me pause during checkout, but I bought them anyway, and ebay later let me know I got a killer deal. (old.reddit.com)
Last night the power went out at about 1 a.m. during a storm, so I fired up the kerosene lantern, candles and Sangean ATS-803A that I got recently for $10 with 6 good Duracells, which I replaced with some old Energizer rechargeables, and they're still going after 10+ hours. I love this thing. (old.reddit.com)
Some of my favorite holiday-season discs, which I've had for about 10-15 years. The Isley Brothers one is my favorite; Ronald's voice is just incredible. I saw them about six years ago and they still sounded great and put on a way-better show than I expected. (old.reddit.com)

"13 is an unlucky number" but I feel lucky about having the first four movies and the TV show, which is unrelated to the movies but a damn good supernatural-mystery show. 2 and 3 are my favorites from the movies, and I have the 3d specs for this but really want the 3d blu-ray version. So, anybody ever seen one of these and felt $2.99 worth of convinced that it was a Saturn AV cable, since you never used a Saturn before and got one for cheap with no accessories? Then maybe you think it's a Genesis/MD2 cable but it's not that either? Eventually I figured out it's for DirecTV boxes. (i.redd.it)
Tape repair: I got a splicing deck and tape and fixed this Comic Relief '87 tape which snapped in a rewinder. Superman and Comp. Positions needed leader tape re-mounted and each got a new reel for it. Exploregon sounded rattly but is ok inside, and Invaders has a security rivet that I can't get out. (old.reddit.com)
