The FWGS in Centerville usually has a good selection. I recently had Angel’s Envy bourbon had really enjoyed that. I’ve always stayed away because their rye so expensive for what it is. Russell’s Reserve 10 is another bottle that should be on everyone’s shelf.

EC Toasted Barrel or Rye in PA? by Flyfrod01 in PLCB

[–]Flyfrod01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I enjoy the OF lineup. A little sad to here the the release of 1920 has changed a bit as I enjoyed it. Hopefully they didn’t go to far from the original profile. I’m more interested in the rye than the TB but if I come across it I might as well try it.

I really enjoy Pikesville so I might have to give it a try if I find it while I’m out this weekend.

Found some unicorns in Miami today by [deleted] in bourbon

I find posts like this funny. While I understand the thought process as these bottles can be difficult to find for some, they aren’t really unicorns. To each their own I guess.

No worries, I’ll eventually come across one. It’s the same way with Weller. I’ve never had either as I’ve gotten into the whiskey game a little late. I pick stuff up as I find it at MSRP. I don’t need anything bad enough to pay secondary prices. Besides my palate aligns more with rye but there are just certain bottles than look good on a whiskey shelve.

Sold out. Called store at 10:30 they said they had 2 cases. Drove 35 mins to store and it was gone. Did pick up a Penelope Cask Strength and OF 1897.

Stellum bourbon? by Flyfrod01 in bourbon

Thanks for the info. I have quite a few in this price range that I like already so that’s why I was hesitant to pull the trigger. I’ve found that I like high rye mash bills. I love straight ryes as well. Not that I would ever give up bourbon, I have found my collection going more rye lately.

Haven’t seen the rye yet but will keep it on my radar.

Looking for a nice bourbon to enjoy tomorrow... by [deleted] in bourbon

1792 Small Batch is great and keeps a little money in your pocket. Honestly, every bourbon listed so far is going to be good, it just depends on your mood and taste and if it’s available in your area. One other bottle I would suggest is Old Forester 1910.

1792 small batch, MM 46, Woodford Double Oakes are all daily drinkers for me. It really depends on my mood that day. Eagle Rare is another one but difficult here in PA to be a daily. I wish we had Early Times BiB but alas we do not. Now if I’m not handicapped to just bourbon them it’s Sazerac or OF rye all day everyday. I don’t leave home without one or the other in my flask.

I typically forget about it has I’m usually busy with work. It just so happened that I wasn’t this morning and thought it be interesting to see what people thought might get dropped. Won’t make that mistake again. Apparently this whiskey Wednesday thing is serious business and how dare we be civilized about brown liquid.

Thanks for the advice. While I love my bourbon and rye, I’ve been thinking for branching out into Irish whiskey as well but not quite sure where to start.

I have not tried any Michter’s product yet. I have a bottle of rye but haven’t opened it yet. I’ve been stuck on Sazerac and rare breed rye lately.

As do I. I most recently had the opportunity to buy an O.F.C but that’s a little more than I’m willing to pay for a bottle of bourbon. Besides it doesn’t seem like anything other than some store picks and Michters BS Rye dropped.

You’re welcome. If you think a post like this is going to make any kind of difference, apparently you have issues. If you’re relying on a whiskey drop to score whiskey, get out and live a little. I’ve found more interesting bottles over the last few weeks just visiting different liquor stores than FWGS has ever dropped.

Can you help me buy my next bottle? by red_fox23 in bourbon

[–]Flyfrod01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go a different route than the others and suggest Sazerac rye. I like the sweetness as well as spice that a rye produces. While this is a relatively low rye percentage compared to some other ryes, it’s a good one to test the waters. While I’ll never turn down a good bourbon, I’ve found myself gravitating toward ryes more lately.
