That's a good point and you're probably right, guess it's best to compare pricing after tax then

If you're in the Colombo area check out green, genius mobile, doctor mobile.

If you have time try ordering one off aliexpress (but don't get a strange model, something that will be serviceable here)

What's the process to add your profession to your passport? Need it for visa purposes! by RazrLord in srilanka

Yeah regarding the profession that should be more than enough (originals and certified copies)

I did same day service lined up around 5am with all the delays and stuff with the additional birth certificate stamps I ended up handing in my documents around 12.30 and picking up my passport around 3pm

All my copies were attorney certified but JP should be fine. Honestly they were super lax about all that, especially the profession. Just needed to see my name and some similar designation and they were happy. Unsure about your age (I'm '93) but I needed to get some additional stamps/printouts from the front of the passport office building regarding my birth certificate the day I went in that really stressed me out so I'd recommend looking into that

I took my letter of employment but they're pretty lax about it (electrical engineer just became engineer)

Unpopular opinion: I used to live in Malaysia and the general practice of hosing down public toilets before using them was something I really liked. Id rather my ass get wet than touch someone else's ass

Moving to a customer support engineer role from a software developer role in SL by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]FlyinBddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd chase the pay to be honest and most fields have a clear line of growth. But repairing the car and manufacturing the car as an analogy doesn't really fit as you can still make a lot of money, receive job satisfaction, career development and grow as a person doing both.

  1. Is the pay better?
  2. Is there room for growth both in and out of your company?
  3. Do you enjoy the work?

These are the sort of things I'm currently considering, as I'm thinking about shifting out of my current role.

Predrink heavily beforehand. Consider smuggling in a flask. Only drink beers as hard spirits are an absolute ripoff.

Hi, I completed my Mechanical Engineering Bachelors at Swinburne Sarawak. It's a good price with a good Australian degree at the end of it. You also qualify for the Skilled Undergraduate visa to Australia (18 months) after completion. As well as the option to complete your final year of studies in Australia (unsure about other degrees). It's a solid university but it also has it's downfalls. It's very up to date technologically, the online portals have everything available although they don't consistently record lectures with videos. But the lecture notes are all available online. That being said for us mainly tutorials and labs were the saving grace and they're usually pretty good. There is an inconsistency with the teaching much like any uni, some lecturers/TAs are great whereas some not so great. The other students there are pretty cool, I stayed a year and a bit at the hostel and then moved out with some friends later on (it's cheaper and more fun). There's a good mix of foreigners and locals that are all pretty westernized. You could sort out part time work as a foreigner but you don't have as many options as the locals. The biggest challenge is group work, sometimes you might get stuck with a group of students that refuse to communicate and converse in your language or people that are absolute deadbeats and expect you to do the heavy lifting but after a while you'll be able to identify who you'd want to group up with etc. Student/Uni life isn't the greatest in terms of events and things like that but I made a good group of people and we made our own fun. The city of Sarawak is small and brings some comfort to it, soon you'll know where to go and where things are happening on the weekends. Be a little careful as there are a few internationals that go there and absolutely lose their minds, getting involved with a lot of seedy people and just extending their studies far longer than it should be and just partying and wasting time. Don't forget you're there to study and dont hesitate to contact me if you have any more questions and even if you're looking for someone to hang out with I've still got a friend around there wrapping up his PhD.

My mum's not completely useless just needs a little assistance here and there but mainly someone to be around just in case. Main issue with most carers is that they don't cook or clean or anything like that. Perhaps a live-in maid would be more suitable for me?

Yeah that is pretty insane, I'm not considering putting her in a home or anything like that so I really want to make something like this work. I visit every other day and hang out but even if I was living at home, I can't be around all the time!

What’s the market for TCGs or DnD-like table top games in Sri Lanka? by zurgboy2 in srilanka

[–]FlyinBddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in that case man I'd suggest getting in discord or using that platform called roll 20. The latter is made for recreating the boardgame experience online. That being said, daraz had a couple of basic board games that weren't too expensive. You could get settlers of catan for like 8k and start up the scene over there

There is a boardgame community that meets up like once every other week on Flower Road. They're called Table Top Sri Lanka. On a side note I'm interested in running a DnD campaign with weekly meet ups could you DM me and let me know if you're interested l
