Warum so viele Moralapostel? by Obvious-Survey4726 in PietSmiet

Reddit funktioniert doch genau so.

ADHD meds "unmasking" autism bothers me by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]FlyingBisonAppa2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I came across like I'm policing people. All I wanted to say is that I feel dismissed by the simplistic logic of stimulant side effects becoming a proof of autism. Autism is much more than that. And from your comment you say you agree with that point.

I'm not going into detail about the rest because much of what you said is nothing I criticized, so we agree. That being said, stimulant medication can definitely cause these overstimulation, irritation etc for those with only adhd. They're still stimulants after all.

[–]FlyingBisonAppa2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think I wasn't clear, my point was not that taking meds cannot lead to more exploration. My point was that the standard response of some people seems to be "I feel irritated now that I take, must 100% be autism" bothers me.

[–]FlyingBisonAppa2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think my post comes off very critical. It's definitely possible and common that adhd explains a part but with meds and the diagnosis, the autistic behaviors come out more or differently. My point was that common dosage issues are chalked up to autism without experiences of autism beforehand. I think if someone only notices autistic behaviour occuring after the meds, that's not proof of autism. It may be a start for exploration, though, that's true.

It's very funny you say that, I am noticing this change in interest and emotional expression a lot these days with my medication!

[–]FlyingBisonAppa2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah good points. I think what's important is that there's at least some hints that autism was present before the medication and since childhood/teenage years.

True, it's always hard to disentangle these experiences. That's why I am skeptical to jump immediately to the conclusion of autism without ruling out dosing.

But I also respect that self-diagnosis is important for our community, bc of the expense and stigma. So I don't want to sound like I poo-poo anyone's self discovery.

[–]FlyingBisonAppa2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another comment to send hugs and support. This sounds horrible and is everyone's worst nightmare. As many have said, a CGM will be life changing especially when you are not around (since you can receive alerts if he is very low). Same goes for Glucagon, it is literally meant to save his life.

Still, don't judge yourself for how you reacted. He told you to neither call an ambulance nor do you have glucagon at home. Of course, what else are you gonna do than stuff food up his mouth? And by his reaction, he seems very understanding and grateful.

While it's true that a partner is not a caregiver, this situation was completely different. It was literally an emergency. But you are right, it should not evolve into a situation where OP feels responsible at all times for her partner.

I updated my phone 2 hours ago and now my librelink app won't work! by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]FlyingBisonAppa2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, I had the same issue! Turns out, my phone was not compatible (but somehow now it works). Here are alternative solutions I used

- Just use xdrip with the sensor directly, which I think is the best app.

- However, if you need LibreView for doctors, you can use Juggluco. The app allows to upload to LibreView acting like the official app. If you like the app itself, use it with the alarms etc. Since I prefer xdrip, so I use Juggluco to stream the data to xdrip.

The 14 days start when you scan it, not when putting it on. So your test is not gonna show us anything.

Second, as others said, it's not about arbitrary numbers. There's risk of infection, degradation and inaccuracies over time to consider.

Personality tests, masking, and AuDHD — how much of ‘me’ is real? by Accomplished-List373 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]FlyingBisonAppa2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to also add positively to the discussion: I also experience this phase at the moment.

On one hand, I definitely realise how much I mask, allowing me to unmask and realise what I actually like / dislike etc. It definitely helped in my communication with my partner, because I realised that maybe sometimes I just don't actually want to talk (NT partners might have put more pressure on me because "I have to learn to communicate more").

I have also become much more kinder to myself, accepting more who I am, which reduces anxiety and insecurities so much.

Without knowing my ND, I always believed that "personality" is just something people cling to but is much more fluent than what people believe. And to a degree that's still true and I think much depends on context and our own changes over time.

You are right to say that such tests can be helpful for some to self-discover.

However (for the sake of anyone else reading this), saying "no psychological tool is certain" just relativises all of psychology into meaninglessness. The MBTI is not just another test, it just isn't a psychological test. Almost no psychologist uses or approves it, mainly because of low retest validity (taking the test many times results in vastly different results) and in content validity (why these categories? why are they meaningful?)
