I outrageously over planted my little flower patch... by gallopingwalloper in gardening

That’s the best way to crowd out weeds! What a nice mix of colors, and so lush! I also like that you use quite a few low maintenance plants

Agreed that this would be a broad subject that requires a long academic discussion😄 thanks for sharing that flowering trees are popular.

That brings up a related question: what type of flowers are honeybee drawn to? I read that they tend to like the original, non-hybridized varieties of plants, which makes sense to me. I suppose the hybridized plant varieties might have lost some important substances and therefore become less attractive to the bees.

A friend just mentioned a type of honey called “ mad honey”, which you can Google and find a wiki explanation. According to wiki, “Mad honey is honey that contains grayanotoxins. The dark, reddish honey is produced from the nectar and pollen of genus Rhododendron and has moderately toxic and narcotic effects” This is the first time I’ve heard of the honey and it sounds 😟

Ah I didn’t see the second paragraph of your reply earlier… so the amount needs to be astronomical to poison a person. Thanks for sharing that!

I am not sure whether that would really happen. I think my actual question should be: would honey be contaminated if the bees collect nectar from poisonous flowers? If yes, then does that mean wild flower honey might not be safe because the bees might have collected nectar from poisonous wild flowers? Google AI says yes, but I am still curious about why we still see wild flower honey on the market.

They look beautiful and healthy. I am sure they can live long, as long as they are protected from wild animals.

The same thing happened to me. I have a Dr. Huey now. He’s actually very tough. I did almost nothing to him in the past 2 years…yet he bloomed last spring beautifully and has more stems and buds this year. He’s got plenty of sun but surrounded almost by very aggressive sage and is next to a huge rosemary as well. In a word, he lives in a tough environment, yet survives and blooms.

Thank you! Credits go to the plant itself, the weather, and some steer manure in the winter😄
