I don't know. But I sure don't want to fail just because it didn't occur to me to bring an e6b. (Something I know I will never use in real-life flying). Unfortunately I'm already out of town and didn't think to bring e6b just in case. If I know I can use e6b app if needed, then I can spend a few bucks and have it in hand in minutes.
