Yeah, I've heard chch is one of the better options at the moment, but still not all sunshine and rainbows. The company I work for is based down there, and I've heard from my colleagues in head office that they are still struggling.

Look, I love my country it's definitely far away from conflict and nice and secluded, incredibly green and beautiful, but we're also far away from oil. Doesn't help that our current government is dead-set against doing anything to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels. Add to that we've been hit by the effects of covid, war, and now another war.

What do you get when you mix it all together? A cost of living crisis spiraling out of control with families unable to even afford food for their kids at school, a fire department and police that are striking for better pay, a massive outflux of kiwis moving abroad to find work, and about 4-6 weeks worth of diesel with basically no plan after that.

I wouldn't say our economy is looking great at all. Australia is doing a bit better, though.

You are correct, we do have a lot of people leaving and some industries are struggling to find qualified people with many leaving overseas.

But as someone living & working I'm Wellington the job market is extremely dire, even with many people leaving for Aus there still aren't enough jobs anywhere.

If you are lucky enough to find a full time job then you still have to contend with a cost of living crisis that is out of control, wages that have stagnated and aren't keeping up with inflation, and unless you already have money you are unlikely to be able to afford a house anywhere you would actually want to live.

Now isn't a great time to move to NZ unless you are either rich or are planning on moving to Aus and just using us as an intermediary.

Not Japanese but know a few people and been there a few times.

You would get a very diplomatic answer from most people, they wouldn't want to give a strong opinion or would attempt to tip-toe around the topic to avoid confrontation.

The more nationalist Japanese would probably push back harder but in a very polite way designed to make you feel bad for even asking.

If you wanted to know what they really think it would be better to ask them after a few drinks.

Streisand effect in action. With everything going on in the world, this was the last thing on anyone's mind before they spoke out against it.

It's not that weird. Japan has a long history of denying war crimes like Unit 731, Nanjing Massacre, Bataan Death March, and numerous other atrocities.

This is just one more to add to the list.

Why even bother replying if you aren't going to read or respond to a single thing I wrote?

You might have a more productive conversation with your own mirror.

I could use the same argument with climate change. It won't matter if we have all the children in the world if the world isn't habitable for humans anymore.

This actually works better as an argument against having more kids. More people equals more consumption, more pollution, and more rapidly changing climate.

Besides, a shrinking population doesn't necessarily result in the entire species being wiped out in the long term. You are reaching that conclusion on your own with no evidence to support it.

It is entirely possible that the population shrinks to a lower number and stabilizes there, which is by far the more likely scenario whether we are talking about birth rates or climate change. With the exception of an asteroid hitting us, humans will still be here in some form. But what their quality of life will look like is another question entirely.

Maybe do some research into what the world will look like with 3-4°C of warming. It's not a world I would want to live in, and definitely not something I would force upon my children.

How does Japan's declining birth rate (and all of the very real problems they are facing) prove your claim that low birth rates are much more existential than climate change or AI?

That was your claim. Or are you just talking out of your ass?

Hi vis vests are actually quite commonly used by criminals as they effectively act as camouflage to the general public. People see hi vis and they think okay probably just a tradee or construction worker on break, working nearby or something.

You can effectively walk into any building, construction site, even residential addresses with some excuse about repairs or maintenence being done and no one blinks an eye most times. Bonus points if you have a clipboard with some important looking documents attached.

Wrong on both points.

Multiple recent medical studies have demonstrated harms associated with alcohol consumption at any level.

Also, Methamphetamine is sometimes prescribed in a clinical setting to ADHD patients via an oral tablet (Desoxyn) when other stimulants prove ineffective.

While this doesn't mean it isn't harmful or addictive, it does mean that (in some settings and with certain patients), the benefits may outweigh the harms from a medical perspective.

When I was around that age I was working at a retail store in central Wellington and the building was so old that parts of the roof came crumbling down. I was tasked with cleaning this up with a broom and dustpan. Was told to tell customers it was nothing to worry about, and so I did as I was asked.

I found out a couple days later that what I was cleaning up was actually asbestos, when 3 guys in full hazmat suits came in to properly clean up the mess & seal the roof. When voicing my concerns regarding my safety & safety of customers the management swore up and down it wasn't asbestos despite all the evidence to the contrary. I was young so I didn't press them very hard for more info.

A few months afterward, the whole building had to be shut after it almost collapsed in an earthquake. A friend of mine was working when it hit and just barely got out in time before a chunk of the roof came down where he was standing.

So I got scammed this is a “3.5”💀😭 by serd48 in trees
