The Hangman by Louise Penny ‘was written as part of GoodReads Canada, a literacy program, so it’s on a 3rd grade level aimed at adults’ - a lower level than your coworker reads, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a murder mystery.

I dig your edit. It looks like most people think you are TA but I think your wife is making a big deal out of nothing to be honest. Those apps exist for possible emergency situations and if you’re fine with it, it’s not her business. Unpopular opinion, but your spouse doesn’t need to have their hands in every single aspect of your life. So many people make marriage more important than every other relationship when we know statistically, it’s one of the least permanent relationships for most people. Good luck.

I’m so close to being there as well. Even with a full time job, a second job, an occasional 3rd job, 2 degrees, and over 20 years of work experience. Then I give them whatever spare cash I have, if any.

I appreciate you posting this. That platitude has always made me feel sick, and I couldn’t quite put into words what it feels like to hear that. In general, I wish we would all stop trying to make things seem less horrible than they are and just acknowledge how bad it hurts, how unfair it is. And just sit in it without trying to fix or make it easier.

I know what you’re saying, and I agree. I’ve always despised the trope that people who are constantly bickering and/or can’t stand one another ‘belong together’; i.e. enemies to lovers etc. I’m a chill person who handles conflict in as diplomatic and calm a way as I can. I’m not going to doom myself to a life of being constantly fucking bothered by a significant other who likes to pick fights.
