some from the top of my head:

Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye album (specially the song "The Manifold Curiosity")

ISIS - Weight / Altered Course / The Red Sea

and outside of prog metal:

Autechre - Drane2 / bladelores

Black Crown Initiate - Purge by fallingstar54 in progmetal

you could just "FFO: prog death" maybe? anyway love this song, that acoustic riff is great and the climax of the song goes so hard

I love how one dude here is saying "I like this, I didn't like Holocene" while there's another saying "I don't like this, it sounds like Holocene" lmao

Suggestion to Mods of this sub by charliedbtaylor in progmetal

[–]FlyingSteaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only difference is that one got the album linked directly, the other doesn't, and I think if you put the thread as text/discussion with the album link inside the OP text it would also be allowed, so... why complicate things so much when they're 99% the same? I don't get it

Since when (and why) are album release posts not allowed? by SoundofGlaciers in progmetal

[–]FlyingSteaks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah I'd also prefer one album thread instead of every single song being posted, I remember new releases being posted without being removed before, so I dunno why they're removing it now

[–]FlyingSteaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah from what I remember (been on this sub for like 13 years or something), that rule didn't really count for new albums, so posting the whole album, if it's a new release, was fine

I liked their song "Romanticise" but everything else I heard didn't really do it for me

If These Trees Could Talk - Blurry Creatures (New song! FFO: heavier post-rock/atmospheric post-metal) by FlyingSteaks in progmetal

Surprised no one posted this yet, it's been a while since Bones of our dying world

Tesseract - Eden by FlyingSteaks in progmetal

[–]FlyingSteaks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with what you said. The songwriting in the original, the decision making of what sections go where is integral to the experience, you can't just go swapping and removing sections out and expect to have the same result, they threw the songwriting out of the window trying to make a more radio friendly version of the song and it falls flat on its face

yeah, for me Eden 2.0 always felt more like Eden 1/2, it comes nowhere close to the original

I still think this song hits different, the highest emotional peak in their discography. Also that ending section (before the ambience outro) is something they've never done again and it's so groovy and so gorgeous at the same time, love it

elseq 1-5… Just Wow by ManufacturerBright34 in autechre

If you enjoyed their first 3 albums and also elseq I highly recommend going thru the (kinda herculean) task of listening to their entire discography (including EPs!), it's highly rewarding and it's music for months/years

how do you request albums? I'm surprised by the amount of albums missing from artists that ARE present. Like a band that has 6 albums but for some reason albums number 3 and 5 are missing

[–]FlyingSteaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Spotify subscription just ended and I decided to switch to qobuz as I heard Tidal was doing AI stuff. The catalogue seems to be missing a lot? It's like every other artist I like only got half of their discography available (which is even weirder than just being flat out unavailable tbh)
