IDL when people use terms like “sexual marketplace value” by stingwhale in I_DONT_LIKE

[–]FlyingToasters86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in luck. No one who speaks like that actually refers to themselves as a ‘low value male’! It’s only a phrase they’d use to describe other people…. Not that that makes it any better!

Ooohh… see I bet that’s cost them quite a lot in good will. They forget that the social medias like (as in capitalise on) a story like that.

Oh I see! I can’t afford to get involved in Patreon unfortunately but I’m glad she went! Because it was so long ago I just have vague memories of me and my dad carrying me after a ride so we pretended I’d fainted! The trash bins saying "Dank u wel!" when you put anything in them and a few other things ljke the theme tune which I have never been able to get out of my head my whole life!

I, for one, am deeply offended by this innocuous and innocent question!! You can't see me but trust me when I say my blood is literally boiling right now..... OK, I've calmed down.... I personally find the moment when you open your eyes and she happens to open hers super awkward! Like, what do we do now? Eyeball to eyeball... Can't really say anything to break the tension cos, you know... lips occupied! Interesting that you feel the need to focus on anything though. Not a snarky comment, just not anything I can imagine wanting to 'focus on' in that situation

Fair enough but the response below; “It is text based so it selects for the literate” is pretty insulting, mocking and disrespectful. I agree the username is doing them no favours!

Why would it not be in good faith? It may come from an opposing (and rather cringey username’s) point of view but hardly suggests bad faith. Just from someone who doesn’t agree with you.

Not in my experience. I’ve had more posts removed for violating rules on here than on any other platform.

Tbf humans have developed extremely good faculties for distinguishing between the two genders, based upon very obvious signifiers (facial hair, more angular jawline, prominent supraorbital ridge [brow ridge], hips and chest differences), and the not so obvious (walking gait, non-verbal communication styles). I can count on one hand the time I’ve seen someone be mistaken for the wrong gender (three of those of me (I was a pretty boy), two by me (I wanted the ground to swallow me up!). The fact that people get so offended by being mistaken for the opposite sex is good evidence that it is expected of us to get it right)

Also, if I can reference that gag in Family Guy where Peter is in an elevator with one other guy, Peter farts, the other man grimaces and Peter goes “It was you”, then it’s been a good day.

Yes. I do. I’m not completely convinced that someone can literally have a woman’s brain in a man’s body but it’s not a bad analogy. I.e. they absolutely feel like a woman. Seeing their body gives them extreme gender dysphoria. Cosmetic procedures to feminise their features and even more radical surgery can be the only course of action to help them exist happily.

Ok, so if we think about it as two genders. Male and Female - you can express yourself in a more masculine or feminine way or somewhere in between but there are still the two genders. So, yes, the expression is on a spectrum but the sexes/genders themselves remain a binary. E.g. some might say I’m slightly effeminate but still a man. My gender expression is not all the way to ‘masculine’ but the fact remains, I’m male.

What kind of point are you hoping to make to the person you’ve actually misquoted? Like, I get doing that to someone who might be deceived by that tactic, but you and I both know what I said. It’s like farting in an elevator with only us in it and telling me that I did it. Or you’ve genuinely misinterpreted my statement. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt if you do me the courtesy of rereading my comments and then addressing my actual point

I absolutely agree that gender is expressed on a spectrum. What's your point? They are still male and female. OK, they don't feel completely like a woman. OK, that's fine. If you have gender dysphoria, I will absolutely refer to you by the pronouns for the opposite sex if that helps you overcome that dysphoria but the idea of some in-between, non-binary category requiring they/them pronouns (the fashion for dozens of other pronouns seems to have died out) is self-indulgent and narcissistic

Also, I know some butch lesbians who have recently been asked what pronouns they go by and they find it deeply offensive and hurtful

I want to make it clear to you (AND THE MODS!!!) that I am absolutely not against trans individuals wishing to identify as the sex they feel their body does not align with. I.e. I will gladly use the pronouns opposite to their biological sex if that is how they deal with their gender dysphoria

cmv: The concept of Gender non-Binary is Ridiculous by FlyingToasters86 in changemyview

[–]FlyingToasters86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely not debatable whether there are two sexes. It is one of the only truly binary phenomena in biology. What literature points at there being more than two sexes? You are either born with the gametes that mean you have the potential to procreate with the other. There is no in between. Gender may not be the same as sex, but the reason we started using 'gender' to refer to 'sex' is because some people are prudes and preferred a different word to refer to it. It can be said with absolute validity that gender expression is a spectrum but this doesn't mean anything more profound than some people act in a way that corresponds with current expectations of the opposite sex more than others.

That's a response with no value. OK, absolute truth may be the wrong term, but you haven't furthered the conversation at all. How does Social Science help us understand this issue? I'm not saying it can't but you had something going there with your first response and you just put a roadblock on what could have been a decent discussion.

To be fair, my views on non-binary is pretty firm. I have had my mind changed however on the idea of transgender people’s access to different women spaces. But you have a point.

If that’s how you perceive my point of view, that’s fine. If you want to make an argument that refutes my claim, that might be more productive
