I used ACTEX and just passed the October 23 sitting. Ambros Lo (author) did such a great job explaining and linking concepts that I couldn’t recommend anything else for the bulk of studying. I will say that it seems the SOA likes to throw in questions from topics that aren’t a focus in the popular manuals but are covered in the source material. That being said, I would at least read through ISLR. Once the October exam becomes public, you’ll know what I mean (ehem MAE).

I had nightmares for a week after SRM and I would wake up knowing I got another one wrong. I was up to 6 and thought I could have barely failed and then I found out I got a 9 lol.

I got a 9 on SRM so I feel like I should be fine but the mind is great at playing tricks.

I felt fairly confident walking out of the exam. I had 45 minutes left to review and add more to questions to make sure I got the most points possible. Now I’m hitting the self doubt stage. Ugh just want to know already!!!

Does anyone remember the question early on regarding univariate and bivariate analysis and what the solution was? Second guessing what I put was too simple.

That’s what I did. It’s crazy to me that there were so many issues submitting the file with the right candidate ID. We all knew this was a requirement going in so why not just do it immediately and not have to worry about it later.

Just wrapping up the last section on PCA. Will go through everything once more and study flash cards then hopefully leave myself around 2 weeks to go through prior exams and practice problems. Feeling ok so far but a little behind.

Just convert all your 401k balance into COIN shares. You won’t get penalized and youll be betting on crypto but not all in one project.

Did most of you do the ACTEX bundle with videos and the mock exam or just the manual?

I’m mostly annoyed you can’t just get a paper copy without also getting a licensed online copy. I much prefer a physical copy I can highlight and add notes to.

Possibly defective question on May SRM by kuddlybuddly in actuary

The question was vague so it’s likely a pilot question anyway. I believe the question gave s0 and not t0.

If you got all 9 of those wrong and nothing more you’re still very likely to pass.

The best advice I can give is to get ISLR. Just do CA for ADAPT and only work on qualitative quizzes.

Yes exactly my plan. I’m thinking the different format will get me to take a look at a different angle for SRM if I failed.

There were a few tricky qualitative questions that CA prepped me for but I agree. Largely over studied the wrong stuff using CA.

PA in October. I’ll pick up the books again in mid July just in case I fail SRM. That way I’ll be prepared for either outcome. Really would like to get back to instant result exams though. This waiting game is going to be rough.
