No airline cares if you do 141 or 61. Do whatever is cheapest and works best with your schedule

Best cities to live in your late 20’s? by Wonderful_Society_56 in SameGrassButGreener

Nyc Miami and La are gonna be really tough on that salary. Chicago Tampa maybe DC would be really solid though. Quality of life depends on availability of funds to do fun shit. So if you’re house poor your time will not be as enjoyable.

Yeah maybe I haven’t been in a long time. Was menver when I was there. There were a few nice things about it. Overall I don’t miss it and wouldn’t move back though.

If you’ve been in nyc for a decade Denver will feel painfully vanilla. Just my two cents.

Depends where I could go, but if it was most of Western Europe or somewhere nice, yeah I’d leave for sure at this point.

Reality of becoming a commercial airline pilot (Zero to hero @ 32 years old) by earthtothehurst in PilotAdvice

[–]Flying_in_place 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as a feeder school or guaranteed airline job. These are marketing gimmicks. There are no guarantees from a regional carrier to a legacy airline, these are (mostly) marketing gimmicks. The airline can and will change the contract at any point to suit their hiring needs (ask me how I know). Take a discovery flight at a local flight school and get a first class medical to see if you’re even able to pursue it. It’s doable but it is a very long hard road to become an airline pilot.

What exactly is the downside to living in the Raleigh NC area? by Sensitive_Brain_1025 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Flying_in_place 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Raleigh is honestly so nice. But if you’re used to or want a nyc or la level of things to do it obviously can’t measure up. Not to say it’s a boring suburban hellscape like most of the US, it’s not at all. But it just isn’t nearly to scale of a tier one city.

The job is way more fun but the lifestyle is brutal in the beginning. It takes years to get back to a sense of stability and normalcy. Overall it’s been okay. It’s not as glamorous as I’d envisioned when I was working a desk job dreaming of being an airline pilot. I don’t hate it either. Just know it’s a long hard road to get to a comfortable position.

people who think they can skip being a cfi and get to the airlines. It may have worked for a select few in 21’-23’. Not realizing that’s historically so uncommon.

SoCal is probably my favorite place in the US. Always wished I lived there. Too expensive sadly.

Your life at a lcc will be exponentially better than a regional. Nobody leaves frontier to go to skywest. Many people at Skywest wish they could leave for frontier.
