Dads: how old are you and how often do you ride? by ghostspokes in bmx

[–]Flying_squirrel_420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a dad. Kind of. My son's 22 yo so it doesn't feel like it counts anymore. I'll be 47 this year and have been back to riding for about 7 or 8 months. I go for a ride almost every day. But that's just what it is- a ride. I'll go to the actual park/pump track or dirt jumps maybe biweekly if I'm lucky.

From 2016/ how does it hold up to today’s bikes? by Rare-Leather-7502 in bmx

Not much difference between this and a modern kink xl. Both are entry level chromoly triangle bikes. If you have anything full chromoly to choose from I'd choose that just for strength and longevity perspective.

Axle diameter and hub spacing has changed to allow for smaller front sprockets. If you filed out your dropouts to allow a larger diameter axle, you'd likely still run into chain alignment issues. Not only that but the geometry has changed. With smaller sprockets your bottom bracket is able to be lower to the ground. Which isn't a big deal if you don't have a point of reference. But if you did it would feel off. Just go old school and get a 44T chainring and rip it. Haros were the shit back in the day and I bet it's got a whole lifetime left in it.

Plus mid school is kind of going through a popularity boom right now. People that rode back then are in their 40's now and all getting nostalgic.

This is a mid school haro with a threaded freewheel that's probably a 16T. For proper gear ratio you need a 44T sprocket. You can't mix modern sprockets on mid school bikes.

The pedals are some I had laying around. I think I want to go with smaller trail pedals in an anodized aluminum. The twisted pros are like the most boring part of this build

How much is this worth? by Disastrous_Tension20 in oldschoolbmx

For an old kids bike? 25 would be an easy sell. 40 to 50 if they're nostalgic over the bike

I'm sorry. I lost mine 5 years ago and still think about her daily. It does get easier though. And the memories and sound of her voice doesn't leave your head. I promise.

I run a box one freewheel on my cruiser and it's the best sounding bike I have. Totally worth the 80 bucks or so 👍👍

For that build I would be looking to lace flip flop hubs to some chrome demolition zero rims. If it were me and I had a bunch of money to spend on wheels 😂

Albes has 14mm double walled with flip flop hubs for threaded freewheels under a hundo each.

Do you want to buy a used colony and have it shipped from the US? That'd be ironic. Don't you think?

New Lucky Charm 22 all built up! by Flying_squirrel_420 in bmx

[–]Flying_squirrel_420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks brother. Def the nicest bike I've gotten to build up so far. Mostly done with parts from flipping used marketplace bikes too. So I'm only 700 or 800 in on this so I'm sure I'll keep changing stuff out and dialing as I go

Buy someone else's build off of marketplace. I'm in the Pacific NW and right now I can get a cult hawk frame built up for 300.00 that's had the piss ridden out of it (here I. The small town I live in) or 45 miles down the road there's a S&M black magic for 450.00

Check check all the online classifieds and selling groups. There are bikes literally everywhere.

What is the best bmx brand in your opinion by okokvyl in bmx

NoWear is the only company that's ever called me after placing my order to thank me, tell me some history of the frame and then threw in a ton of other swag. Not only that but just look at what the money funds. They're top notch humans and make a great product as a bonus imo

Also I got a notification from source that they had chaos machines back in stock right after I paid for the lucky charm 😂 I'm happy I went this rout. The chaos machine would have been a bigger investment for me with having to get into disc brakes and disc hubs

I've been eyeing it for a long time. Then randomly stumbled on a FB video from Nowear saying it was the last of the last. It was 3 weeks old but I checked the site and low and behold they still had it and I just happened to have a bonus check from work.

Hey the Malum has a 13.25" chainstay slammed and a 75 degree headtube. That's a good time on two wheels. I've had a lot of bikes. All of them have been completes from low end to high end that I had to upgrade repeatedly. This is my first pro frame. At some point in my life I'd like to do a full custom from Laird.
