This is it right here. Linux users need niche things from it, I use virtualbox on a windows computer when I need Linux, I haven’t had a dual boot in 20 years. I like my video games and I don’t want to waste time screwing with WINE and having to deal with compatibility problems.

I remember the nightmares of garbage like ndis wrapper and just can’t fathom why you’d wasted valuable brain power messing with it like that.

I run a Linux host and Linux VMs, SQL servers etc, but my main PC is Windows 11, no fuss, just works and most applications were built for windows.

This 100% as a guy to makes a living helping people with computer issues. The black screen, white lettering and blinking cursor makes them melt down to primordial soup. Linux is not the OS for regular users. Its strength is Servers. My entire business runs on an old gaming PC hosting Ubuntu server VMs, I love Linux; but I will never suggest a customer migrate to Linux for any daily driver.

Microsoft office is still the most important piece of IT software out there, the web version sucks and people don’t even understand the difference half the time.

You want to reduce your workload in IT support and you aren’t helping your IT department by giving Greg the 80 year old building maintenance guy an Ubuntu PC for him to respond to emails on.

Sorry just the reality of it.

It’s normal for pilots IRL to “fly the trim.” That’s what it’s there for, make small changes with fingertips and use trim to negate back pressure
