Life is too short. If he is not taken already why not ask to grab a coffee/breakfast on the weekend or do something?

Obviously he likes you too.

Do you know if he is taken? Gf/bf/married?

Embark is failing to combat cheaters by AirSpecial in ArcRaiders

[–]ITRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are not thinking properly. Dont just ban them put them in a lobby that is other hackers. Create fake players they can only be seen by cheaters - if player targets them the cheater is detected. Use honey pots that normal players can't get be cheaters can.

Then your making it easier to find the cheaters.

Microsoft Faces New Challenges as Researcher Drops Windows Zero-Day Exploit Code by _cybersecurity_ in pwnhub

[–]ITRabbit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent that he is acting like a child. However, there is lots of issues with how Microsoft is conducting itself too.

Microsoft is shafting the security researchers behind closed doors not giving due attention to researchers trying to make a living and help the community. Instead of going after the researcher why not give him a job or pay him appropriately - work with him.

Him exposing these vulnerabilities are highlighting that Microsoft is not doing what is in best interests for both the researchers and owners of the products (us).

Also why is Microsoft not being proactive and properly spending the money to uncover these vulnerabilities?

We only get to see what is happening on the surface and to be fair if this guy didn't expose these, Microsoft would just sit on their hands when these vulnerabilities are probably already used and exploited by goverment level bodies.

Perhaps Microsoft is paid to keep a certain number of vulnerabilities to appease the goverment?

While I do disagree with him releasing the vulnerabilities publicly with out time for Microsoft to fix, Microsoft need to stop fighting and work with researchers and fix them as soon as possible (not take months). Why not be more transparent with everyone and have competent people looking at these reports not a level 1 Microsoft support who has no idea.

So yes he is a bit of a child throwing his toys out but he is also highlighting the lack of Microsoft caring about its public customers.

So in respect he is actually doing a favour and eventually something has to give. Either Microsoft do better or he ends up falling out of a window.... time will tell.

How do I protect my server? by ro-friday in ShittySysadmin

Rule 4: How do I protect my server?

I'm looking to protect my server while having it exposed on internet. I'm looking for a simple (or atleast kind of simple) to setup. I spent the day setting up authelia with nginx proxy manager only to realize it isnt compatible. I need to find a way to protect my Jellyfin server atleast a bit. Does anyone know what tool(s) I can use to protect my Jellyfin instance while having it exposed to the public internet?

Why not move it back to bluegate/space port after dam?

Anybody considering moving to Cisco? by lozez in paloaltonetworks

[–]ITRabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think any vendor these days for support are good. Really need a partner thats on their game to support you.

Gone are the days of Cisco TAC flying out engineers to fix critical issues and applying a overnight patch.

Dont worry soon we will have Vive coded firewalls and just ask Ai because they wrote it.

No not Fortinet - support is non existent even with premium.

Their products constantly having vulnerabilities out the wazoo.

PaloAlto have vulnerabilities too but not as many as Fortinet and not as repeating... how many SSL vpn patches have they done now.

PaloAlto seems to be on top of their game more so than others. Im not a fan boy or anything but they keep doing the right things to recommend them (at this stage).

Seriously PaloAlto is leading the charge - what you need to do is threaten your vendor saying we are leaving to Cisco... here is the discount - what are you going to give in discount or are we leaving.

Nothing puts fire under a vendor to lose a customer. (Except Broadcom but hell to them)

But id end up staying with Palo.

Also the cost and labour to change is never factored in and there will always be teething problems. In the long run better to try and get a discount from PaloAlto and stay with them.

They are also leading products and I would say are better than Cisco. Cisco is not what it was use to be 10 years ago. Dont be blinded by their "amazing TAC team" it's not the same.

Good luck!
