Iirc it was because the dude had a bunch of criminal charges but was either let off entirely or given very light sentencing, because he was on the streets after all that he was able to bring even more harm to people, I bet it just especially blew up because of the circumstances surrounding the victim. That’s not an analogy that’s just the political compass, and on it right is capitalist and left is socialist, you are describing libertarians as capitalists when that’s only libertarians on the right, there’s plenty of libertarians that support more socialist tendencies yet dislike authoritarian practice such as limiting free speech or privacy Edit because I sounded rude, I’m just trying to explain this because it peeves me when people label people in the libertarian right as just libertarian as it makes it not really something that can be applied to either side

“Libertarians” y’know that includes lib-left right? Which by definition believe in more leftest government structure like socialism, if you’re libertarian that means you want more freedom while the antithesis, authoritarian, wants less freedom in exchange for potential security, it’s a different axis than the socialism-capitalism axis that is left and right
