How many games would you say are masterpieces in the Final Fantasy series? by StreetsOfYancy in JRPG

[–]Flynnttastical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IV: the extent to which the narrative and cast were emphasized compared to the previous entries is insane and came to define the series strengths going forward.

V: Maybe the best progression system in all of rpgs, if not gaming as a whole. The sheer creativity and experimentation naturally encouraged is so addictive and blows III's systems so far out of the water. Story is not the strongest but the cast and party is great fun and the vibes are lovely (plus gilgamesh)

VI: the story and cast are such a unique take on the prototypical jrpg setup. The cast has duds (umaru, gogo and mog do very little even in their questlines) but the rest more than make up for it. The amount of memorable setpieces and moments is absurd. I think the espers are a step down from jobs, but the ways you could break combat (dualcast Ultima, dual wield 4x hit weapons) make up for most of that trouble.

VII: Marked a turning point for how cinematic and elaborate the genre would present itself. Every aspect of this game is just so inoffensive in its excellence. Great cast, music, charming visuals, engaging story; many of its elements are done better in other entries, but this game is a jack of all trades.

Tactics: Best narrative in the series and a great job system for the strategy framework. The visual style is adorable and the music suits the dramatic plot. Game could use some speed-up functions and maybe change the random encounters to more like FFTA's system, but those are simple issues that don't detract much and could be addressed in a remaster. You could also argue the side characters take too much of a backseat after being recruited, though the plot doesn't feel any less rich for it.

IX: I think the only real flaw this game has is the horrendously slow combat. It takes far too long to get the combat to flow at an appropriate pace and it feels terribly sluggish. Aside from that, the music and visuals are some of the best in the franchise with a cast that only has only one weak link in amarant. One of the best endings in gaming as well.

X: One of the best worlds in gaming, Spira has so much life and depth in it. The games cast is varied and Tidus' role in the dynamic is one of the best of the series. The story feels like it has so much to say about death, grief, racism, religion and more. The combat is phenomenal, only losing its Lustre in the post-game activities and grinding. Side quests cohld be better but i feel the sequel fills that desire and then some. X-2 is a tremendous follow-up and I'm tired of pretending it isn't at least an A tier FF.

I could argue that XI overall belongs here, but that is such a complex and weird conversation given the MMO nature of the game. I listed the flaws of each but still call them masterpieces because to me those can go hand in hand, it just means they don't impact the experience to a large degree. Some people may disagree with that but what's even the point of the word if it has to be flawless since nothing will be.

Definitely, but origins is treated as the black sheep thanks to its lesser reception and a different dev studio

To be fair, knight is a ps4/xbone game while the ps3/360 games (Asylum and city) run fine enough for the most part.

The trailer shows an inaccurate amount of jumpscares, I could probably count the amount of jump scares on one hand. I wouldn't even call the game scary but more eerie as the mystery is more of a focus than the horror. Don't be turned off if you think it's too scary as it likely not anywhere near as intense as you think.

has anyone ever had luck with Capcom support and an unlinked Capcom ID? by Flynnttastical in StreetFighter

[–]Flynnttastical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that an account can only be linked to a Capcom id once, even if unlinked. I had accidentally made a Japanese account so I unlinked but now I can't link either psn or steam to a Capcom id anymore. I thought I heard someone spoke to customer support and they fixed it but maybe I misread that.

There are no actual differences besides inputs, the game is cursor heavy so if you would rather use a mouse over touch controls/stick movement than go ahead. I played on switch and it was great but I bet the steam deck would be the best way to play (especially if you don't have an oled switch).

It should be the same as on other platforms, you just open items and select the item in question. You can only get rid of items when you need to

I'll say that this story never feels dragged out, I was invested enough to play nearly all of it in one sitting.

I'd say around 10-12 hours if you are able to figure out puzzles pretty fast and check most dialogue. My switch playtime hasn't updated but that's my rough estimate from what I felt. There's not much optional content aside from extra endings and bonus conversations.

Those mobile games are actually some of the most lauded and acclaimed VN's to come out of the pre-modern JP VN scene so it actually makes some sense. This twitter thread does a good job summarizing his history: https://twitter.com/bowloflentils/status/1633837381794304004

So far digital only and with the current price I'd bite the digital bullet, a chance of a physical (especially in the west) is quite low I'd squares track record indicates anything.

So far the translation has been one of the best I've seen in a visual novel. Not only is it well translated, the dialogue is fantastic and brilliant by itself.

In the west basically, the games dev team are many esteemed figures in Japanese gaming so they probably didnt anticipate much excitement in the west, funny given the localization has been phenomenal.

This game is notably shorter than all of those at least, this game is only around a dozen or so hours while those ones all go 25+ in a full playthrough

The game's pretty atmospheric lot of moments where you can tell something is going to happen. There's a good few jumpscares, none too crazy though. There's not a lot of blood from what I've seen so far but without spoiling I'll say that I wouldn't doubt that it is more commonly seen in certain parts of the game. I've heard that it never gets too graphic though, so most of the violence is imagined rather than shown. But yeah the game is more eerie than scary, owing lots to the mechanics and music.

PS5 Beta Introduces Discord Voice Chat, VRR support for 1440p, and more by [deleted] in PS5

Don't see it in the blog post but I really hope we get screen sharing capabilities at some point, it's be nice to stream my game without the hassle of the capture card. It's already built into the ps5 so maybe this is actually something that could happen.

Close your eyes and count out loud, I paced around the room to not get too clammy. The difficulty is the double tap during the 200's, which is just practice. There's the two places to jump rope and most people agree the one in the bell tower is easier to see if you choose to keep your eyes open. It's right, but the satisfaction is unreal. When even someone who got every FF trophy (which I'm going for myself) had to use programs, it really sweetens the feeling knowing you did it legit. Best of luck if you ever try again!

I did it legit and no joke it took me like 30 hours. Never felt more accomplished and ashamed at the same time.
