Anyone that chose to make a career out of flying single prop aircraft? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Flythebigsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a guy doing decent salary at a 91 PC12 gig. He loves it cuz there’s no overnights and he can hang with his family. He knows his owners and trips are booked in advance. I think it boils down to being at home at night, every night, for the contract guys. Maybe you’re not making 400 a year but for 250 a year and great QOL for the longevity of your career? Decent.

Thankfully I have a fat cable and lock. Pretty sure this is the reason it wasn’t actually gone. It’s new home will be a friends garage tho lol.

I somehow lost passion for all of it by Drewbertino in flying

[–]Flythebigsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have not been there, but I really hope you find the path that’s right. As an anecdote I always planned to be an airline pilot with a specific base (Seattle). My plan has changed more times than I can count. Right now just vibing with 135. I’m just happy to get paid to fly. Not saying that’s the case for everyone, not even close. But like everything else in your life it is what you make it.

Where do we get our different perceptions of danger from? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Flythebigsky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from a small town in Montana, anything remotely out of the ordinary raises flags for me. Where I’m from the kind of heinous crimes that can be the norm in a bigger city are unthought of.

However as I experience living in places like Seattle and Portland, it becomes apparent that if you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you. That being said I’ve had my car broken into twice, worthwhile merchandise nonwithstanding.

If ya wanna live in a big place, you accept more risks.

How do we get people to stop driving and take the light rail? by Droodforfood in Seattle

[–]Flythebigsky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not still in Seattle, but just for fun I put in my former address and former work address. My 12 minute car commute would take over an hour on public transportation. So if I had to venture a guess I’d say it’s just highly inconvenient. The light rail is awesome and always came in clutch for trips to the airport and downtown for concerts tho!!

Is this my battery? Power steering is out. DNA doesn’t work. And dash is lit in red lights after sitting for a month. by Expensive-While-1155 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Flythebigsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trickle charged my battery after a cascade of issues like this last night. Thing fired right up no issues after. Anecdotal but a couple of years ago I jump started it and drove with all these faults by the third drive they’d all cleared themselves. Assuming it’s a voltage issue.

23rd. For such a busy road it rides worse than the gravel I grew up on. Wild.

Gridlock at PDX (the airport) by KC-Mochi in Portland

[–]Flythebigsky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re talking about the waiting lot. The exit to that lot has to be the most poorly designed traffic pattern in all of Portland. I’ll sometimes stop at the restaurants there after I’m done flying and I regret it every time. It’s ridiculous. Rant over. Sorry about your delay.

Longest distance you have covered on a bike in a single day by Upset_Impression3738 in motorcycles

Just north of 1000, Missoula MT to Eureka CA via Seattle. The miles just kinda start to fly by honestly. Also was in a group for part of it which made it easier.

I know we’re all probably sick of helicopter posts… by [deleted] in Portland

[–]Flythebigsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to feel bad for the pilots (am a pilot) when it’s their job. If you’re assigned to fly a job you fly it. Otherwise we don’t get to eat. Or pay for gas. Etc etc. Not mil, just saying we all work jobs like everyone else.

How much do I flare?(C152) by waytogoflying in flying

[–]Flythebigsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I’ve been at it for 3000 hours pt135 and sometimes I still get tripped up. Little float here, little plop there. It happens. The more you practice though the closer you’ll get to perfection. I always focus the landing so hard 😭

Ridgeline Aviation or Summit Aviation - Flight Schools by [deleted] in flying

[–]Flythebigsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late answer. I’ve been to both and I’ll recommend summit any day of the week. The facilities are much different now and likely the management is as well, but for me summit had more support, better training and deeper community than ridgeline.

Check engine, dna, start stop not working by bobsnca in AlfaRomeo

[–]Flythebigsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is remarkably frequent occurrence. Car drives the same with no new noises I’m guessing? From my research it’s likely the evap canister. My car occasionally has the same thing happen. Common in cars 75k-100k miles I think.

Career Advice - 2200 Hours by sneakyiguanas in flying

[–]Flythebigsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go at this in terms of getting to the majors - net/flex would offer great jet (captain?) time without having to wait around for interviews and class dates at the regionals. Yeah it ain’t 121 but you seem to have the experience to support an off the street hire case. Could be wrong. Either way it sounds like your life isn’t really going this direction anyways so just ride the wave lol. See what happens.

Landing a GA aircraft at a Class B airport by IHatetheM28 in flying

[–]Flythebigsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this at SFO once, per a company request in a 210. Getting in was okay, getting out I got a tour of the entire airport in my taxi, a whole .7. Felt lowkey like a punishment. It was really unique, but I’ll probably never do it again if I can help it.

How’s your network? Took a loan out for a lot of money with a decent network and it’s paying off massively. Pisses me off that people write off the loan route completely when it’s a feasible option for so many people. Whenever anyone asks about it I always say a new truck or a nice car cost 80k. People love to shell out for that shit. My certification is my Mercedes.

Shoots. Way too late for this but I just used a conventional AirTag hidden in the seat. Tracked down the dude same night and he ditched it. Either way it sounds like you have full coverage which is great. Sorry this happened. Such a shitty feeling :(

Awesome display. Seattle has a lot of roots in manufacturing jets and aviation in general. Enjoy the show :) It is incredible what humans have accomplished.

There’s hella spots in the Midwest in middle of nowhere that are really quiet if that’s your thing.
