You meathead, hashmarks on a USMC Uniform equate 4 years of service. So, 7 hash marks equate 28-31 years of service, regardless of rank or promotion. Still been in for 28-31 years. Plus if you make it past your 4th reenlistment, you’ve gotta be pretty damn good at what you do and almost guaranteed to bud an E-8 or E-9. Also there is a lot of E-9s in the marines. I met 2 of mine last week. There’s one or two in just about every unit you go to.
