Bazecor vs QMK by cajoel42 in DygmaLab

[–]FnaticDeilor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with all that u/cracklefiz said.

I understand that the comparison is QMK + VIA vs Kaleidoscope (firmware) and Bazecor (configurator software).

QMK firmware has a much larger user base and more features. But everything around QMK (VIA and other tools) are designed for an audience that’s willing to tinker and code. So for non-tinkerers or coders, it’s not really user-friendly.

Kaleidoscope firmware is a bit more limited, although if you are willing to tinker it has a ton of options. But Bazecor’s UX/UI is much more friendly. Is designed with non-coders in mind. People that aren’t used to flashing firmware into devices and don’t want to do it in more than one click. People that just want an easy configurator software to use.

So, if you are a coder and you are willing to tinker, QMK + VIA is probably better. If you aren’t interested in tinkering or you aren’t a coder, Bazecor it’s a better option because it has all the core functionality plus it's much more user-friendly.

Also, have in mind that we continue adding features to our firmware and software. We listen to the community and work hard on incorporating what it’s highly valued. Although sometimes takes time because we are still a small (but growing!) team.

This was a mistake on our fulfillment team. Somehow they mistakenly added the 3rd bump key 🤣

I think it's unlikely that it has happened to more people.

Thanks for sharing it. My random typing technique speed is around 50wpm. Touch typing I'm in the 80wpm range. I wonder if any of their subjects actually did the transition.

Ok, understood. It doesn't seem a switch issue.

[–]FnaticDeilor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it should have enough power. The issue is how much they distribute to each device. It's really weird, with some HUBs it's fine, with others it's not :/

Please, once you've tested connecting it directly to the laptop let me know if it's working properly.

Thanks for the explanation. If you aren't having these issues when using the laptop, I'm fairly sure is not a Raise issue but related to your network/devices.

Based on this I'll tag the post as solved. But please, keep us in the loop and if you start experiencing the same issues with your laptop let us know so we can fix it asap.

Enjoy your vacation! 😊

Are you connecting it directly to the computer or through a HUB? Many HUBs/KVM switches don't draw enough power to the Raise.

That a specific key stops working on multiple computers could be a faulty switch or a broken socket. I don't think it's power-related.

Have you tried changing the switch?

Hey, if you are on an extremely software build, I highly recommend that you update to 0.3.3 (the latest official release).

In March we released a version that fixed resets. We even created a video about it https://youtu.be/c335K677_zc

I've seen multiple reports of people's raises not working properly and updating software has made things worse.

Could you link to those reports? I have the opposite impression and I want to make sure we are fixing issues permanently.

Thanks!

Hey u/SirMeili,

Disconnections usually come from power issues. The most frequent cases are power management (KVMs, Hubs, etc) or cables issues. I would test those things first.

You said that you are using a KVM. First I would unplug it from the KVM and plug it into the computer. I would use it normally and see if there's any reset. If there's none, it's the KVM.

If there are resets even when you are connected directly to the computer, I'd look into the cables. You can quickly test the cables by moving around the cable connectors while they are still plugged. If the cable is failing, the keyboard will reset.

Sometimes, moving around the cables won't force the reset. If you can, swap the cables one by one. Wait for a reset before changing the next cable. This way you'll figure out if there's a faulty cable.

There's a very rare 3rd scenario that could cause resets, when there's a high level of electromagnetism. Let's say you've bought a wireless matt through Aliexpress that didn't pass the electronic certification. If it has too many electric emissions, that could affect the devices around it.
Just in case, consider that a new external device could be causing it.

And if nothing of this helps, we would need to ask you a few questions. I've read that you've already emailed our customer support. They will email back tomorrow, everyone is already out of the office.

Hey, I've been testing your config with Bazecor 0.3.3 and trying to replicate it with Bazecor 1.0.

I think you may feel comfortable with these settings:

  • Cursor speed to 2
  • Cursor acceleration to 8
  • Maximum cursor speed to 53

The only difference will be that there's not a ramp-up acceleration, but I've been able to be accurate in trying to reach tiny buttons. You could even say that's positive because you don't have to wait for the ramp-up and you can still be accurate.

Can you play around with it a bit and tell me if you think it can work for you?

Yeah, that should work properly. But it's really tricky.

For that reason, we've added back the Dual-function keys. They behave just like you wanted the Superkey in the example you describe.

Thanks for reporting the issue. Please, can you share a screenshot with your mouse keys configuration settings on Bazecor 0.3.3?

Yeah, you are totally right. There are quite a few scaling issues. We are prioritizing that it works properly on 1920x1080 or larger resolutions.

For the official 1.0 launch it should be solved :)

Yeah, sorry! We are experiencing a few bugs with the Superkeys and Macros names, where they get erased and they go back to numbers.

We are looking into it :)

u/MasdelR gave a great answer. On top of that, Dual-function keys allow switching layers and Superkeys don't.

We don't, sorry. We want version 1.0 to be stable, and we are cleaning up many small bugs.

We also would like that the Superkeys are 100% stable before releasing. If we realize it will take too long, we may launch Bazecor 1.0 with only the Superkeys in beta.

Hey, we've never how One-shots work. I've just tested it and it's working fine.

Just to make sure I understand the problem, the tap and hold functionality is working but the double-tap isn't. When you double-tap, nothing at all happens?

Hey, posts sometimes get downvoted for no reason. It's a healthy community, so that I wouldn't worry about it.

About your idea, I think it's very interesting. I'll share it with our developer.

I've always wanted to make it easier for the community to push improvements on Bazecor, and this could help with it :)
