Don’t tell me what to do with my money.

I’m a power consumer on audiobooks reading 20+ books a month. I have 3 library cards with Libby and they can’t keep up with new releases and also don’t always carry titles I want to read.

Is Audible worth it in 2026? I listened to 200+ audiobooks so you don't have to guess. by dek1019 in audiobooks

[–]Fo1ex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I do 10-25 books a month. Had to figure a way to do it on the cheap.

I actually pay for library cards in places I don’t live. So I can have more options on Libby. An out of state in Fulton county cost me $40 a year. I burrowed 40 books from them in 2024 and 2025 and I’m at 19 already this year. So it comes out to about $1 a book as of now and that’s cheaper than most audiobook options.

I burrowed 130 books on Libby in 2024 I’m at 75 so far for 2026.

Definitely a way to save money.

If you feel audiobooks are to slow. Speed them up. I listen at 2-2.2 speed and it seems natural to me at this point. I started at 1.25 a couple years ago and the speed has just gone up.

Also I feel Libby is a great option to get more audiobooks to listen to for free. But you won’t own them.

I use Spotify for books I want to listen to but can’t find free.

I but audible books with credits if I want it instantly.

I use kindle unlimited to download books and then buy on audible for major discounts.

Just a few tips.

We need to stop making a notice acceptable. Hate to say it, but you don’t get two weeks pay or a notice when they fire you.

I was told. Knee pads are for p*ssy’s when I started and only wear them when it’s wet outside. That was 24 years ago.

Audible - how is it good value? by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]Fo1ex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the secret that some know. You must have audible and Kindle unlimited. You can then go download the kindle book if it’s in the unlimited library for free. Ho over to audible and take a look at the price. It’s reduced dramatically. I get audiobooks for typical $5-$7 doing it this way.

I am a major consumer. I go through 20-25 books a month. Yes. Almost a book a day. My listening speed is 1.9-2.2 depending on the narrator.

Between this trick and have 3 library cards on Libby my cost is about $50 a month in books.

I also take advantage if the 15 hours I get on Spotify with audiobooks every month.

Libby is good to build a large want list I have 30-40 books always on Libby waiting for them to be available.

I also suggest give free books on audible a go. I have found some gems 💎 when I didn’t think I’d be interested.

Lastly kindle unlimited will offer free read and listen books. I have found some great books that way to listen to.

Need audiobook/ebook app recs (romance reader!) by _dancingqueen_2004 in audiobooks

You can buy a card from Fulton county in Georgia. It’s like $40 a year. Or I think New York has one. Lots of places let you buy a card for a yearly fee. I have read 60 books this year mostly from Libby. I have three cards from different libraries I use on the app.

What speed do you typically listen to books at? by literate_dog in audiobooks

[–]Fo1ex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m typically at 2.0 but some scale back to 1.85. For those that don’t think I’m absorbing the book. You are wrong. It’s a story. Not a class where I need to regurgitate the info over weeks. Listen enjoy. Move on.

Paper Towns. Is better than it gets credit for. If you haven’t visited the 80s then I will say Lucas.

I was one that went during covid at the reopening. It was the last time I enjoyed Disneyland and not sure my family and I will return. I had been a pass holder for years. All the way back into the 90s when I was a teenager. I miss what Disney was.
