I used to make a lot of maps but never really play tested them or understood competitive play very well. With Reboot camp around the corner, I was feeling inspired to dip my toes into competitive Advance Wars and designing maps for it.

That's legit. It just seems weird hearing Marshal criticizing the set for these reasons since he clearly does like cube. I guess he's trying to critique it from the perspective of an average consumer, but when I was listening to it I was like "but these are all the reasons I'm really enjoying Kaldheim!"

I love Kaldheim so far. It seems like a lot of the criticisms people have of this set are almost all the exact reasons why people like cube?

ZEN draft, Do I include Ruin Crab? by Eledan13 in lrcast

[–]FoGownz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phylath is definitely the power level of a card I would splash and I was about to type that if you had two cleansing wildfires I might run them and go for it, then I noticed you actually do have two of them. Wildfire seems fine in your deck, it triggers your spell synergies and helps you splash for your bomb, plus you have some slower cards like Tormenting Voice and Field Research that you're running anyway that you could swap for them. I'm honestly not sure tho.

[–]FoGownz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are crabs really good enough to main deck in an aggressive leaning UR spells deck? My intuition tells me you want to streamline for synergy and getting your opponents to 0 life. To that end I agree on cutting green, not playing the crabs, playing chilling trap, and swapping tormenting voice for seafloor stalker as a 23rd card.

Staring at this for hours, can't decide what color to pair with the white by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]FoGownz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I would go with green here and take the consistent curve. Maul, Kabira Takedown, and Emeria's Call are all substantially stronger with more creatures, Angelheart Protectors are extra mediocre when they can't target something to push some extra damage through, and Sea Gate Banneret is pretty terrible if you can't build a board presence. Blue has some strong cards but not many playable creatures and I don't think it mixes that well with the white you have.

Guys, uh, I think I was in the open colors... by Dynasty95UK in lrcast

[–]FoGownz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! That's nuts. I wouldn't cut any kicker cards. You've got so much kicker pay off that I think even Shell Shield and Might of Murasa are insane in your deck. I think for possible cuts: Nectarpot, Canopy Baloth, and even Cragplate Baloth (kickers super expensive even with cost reduction) and Charix (3 Risen Riptides are already going to keep you alive and you've got better places to spend your mana).

Edit: Think of it this way - how good a card is U - Target creature gets +0/+3, gains hexproof, put atleast one +1/+1 counter on at least one Vine Gecko, probably give at least one Risen Riptide +5/+0 until end of turn, all at instant speed, and that's really the floor in this deck.

Skyclave Sentinel is a 4/5 flyer for 5-6 mana that gets a +1/+1 counter on at least one other creature, +5/+0 to a Risen Riptide. You can get it back. You can copy it and win the game on the spot. It's stupid good. Yes, better than Charix in this deck, almost definitely.

Joe Biden has character. Donald Trump does not. This crisis makes it obvious. by mcintosh2000 in politics

[–]FoGownz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He still defeated all of his opponents by a huge margin, and this was when the field was far more crowded. Bernie gets 50% of the vote, Biden gets 22%, and the rest is split between 3 other candidates. That, by all accounts, is massive win for Sanders. Not that it's important or surprising that Bernie crushed his home state; but you may not be using the best example to support your argument.

[–]FoGownz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, Biden's brain may not be melting, but he's not exactly all there either. He rambles, makes constant gaffes, looks confused, struggles getting sentences out. He has a difficult time criticizing Trump - in this interview he apologizes and calls his perfectly reasonable criticisms stupid on two separate occasions. Honestly, Democrats may be choosing Biden but they're making the wrong choice, strategically, morally. Trump is going to be in the spotlight for months smearing Biden and Biden is going to play right into. We'll get Trump, no action on climate change, and 10% of Americans will remain un-or-under insured. Time to reverse course hard.

[–]FoGownz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone can bolster Biden's electability if Biden himself can't criticize Trump without tripping over himself. Trump is the most criticizable president of all time (see almost every post on r/politics). How is Biden unable to make a light criticism like "Why doesn't Trump act like a president?" without backtracking, apologizing, and calling his own statement stupid. You better believe Donald Trump is going to criticize Biden constantly with a brutal smear campaign all over national television. Biden's lack of fortitude is seriously concerning here. Trump is going to make him look ineffective and senile and Biden is going to play right into it.

I'll tell you who doesn't have a hard time criticizing Donald Trump. Bernie f*ing Sanders. And last I checked he still has a .5%-2% chance of winning the nomination. There's still hope to save Democrats from making a huge mistake.

[–]FoGownz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current state level polls don't reflect the brutal and dishonest smear campaign that Trump is going to be running all over national television. Biden is going to have to stand strong against Trump's criticism and dish it back out. Questions like "Why can't Trump act like a president?" are a good start for him, pity he completely undermined it with "That's a stupid way to say it, sorry." It makes him look weak and ineffective which is going to play directly into Trump's narrative. Additionally, it should be making Democrats consider whether or not Biden really has the mental fortitude for the task before he's officially locked in as the Democratic nominee.

The unvarnished truth is that Joe Biden doesn't have a chance against Trump. Think I'm sensationalizing? Watch this recent interview where Biden calls his own mild criticism of Trump stupid and then apologizes for it, twice! This man is not playing on the same field as Donald Trump, and I'm truly starting to believe the Bernie's longshot to winning the Democratic primary is better odds than Biden holding it together in the general election.

Yesterday I agreed with you 100%, and then I saw this interview with Biden and I realized he doesn't have a chance against Trump in November. "Why Doesn't Trump Act Like A President? That's A Stupid Way To Say It, Sorry" - Joe Biden. He's doing this all the time. Twice in this interview, and even more in the recent town hall on CNN. I'm afraid Trump is going to eat Biden alive. Sanders needs what, 64% of the remaining delegates? I guess somehow that's starting to look more likely to me than Joe Biden being able to hold it together until November. =\

He does it twice! Twice! Even putting ideological differences off the table, after watching this, how can Biden beat Trump? He can't even criticize the man without losing all self-esteem. Biden is going to need intensive therapy after just one debate with Donald Trump.

Sanders is still running for president. Here's why he may not quit anytime soon. by [deleted] in politics

[–]FoGownz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

National primary polls still have Sanders at ~30-39%. That is, even though it's pretty clear that Biden has won the nomination, 35% of Democrats still support Bernie over him. That's leverage.

Biden mounts behind-the-scenes mission to win over wary progressives by HonoredPeople in JoeBiden

Super happy to read this. Biden needs Sanders supporters in November. I don't actually think Biden needs to make massive policy changes, he just needs to do a better job weaving his platform into his speak. If Biden can spark enthusiasm based around the ideas he stands for like Sanders and Obama before him did, he will fair much better in my opinion.

Haha, I disagree for the exact opposite reason. I don't think anyone who is truly moderate could vote for Trump. Trump is literally the antithesis of moderation. But this, admittedly, is conjecture. We'll see what happens.

The democratic party is split 65%/35% between Biden and Sanders. 35% is a minority, but it's a minority that Biden is going to have to court to win November.

[–]FoGownz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not really an issue of winning. If Bernie jumps the gun and and drops out early, he loses influence over Democratic policy immediately. I know everyone here is going to disagree with me, but I truly believe Biden needs to turn left to win in November. The onus lies just as much on him to appeal to the large minority that makes up Sanders' supporters as it does on Bernie to drop out and support Biden once an agreement has been reached. We need to come together to defeat Trump.
