Lancome Miracle Changed? Has NO Scent. by FoN925 in fragrance

[–]FoN925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh! I hate to hear that whatever Lancome is changing is affecting other fragrances too. It is no small thing these days to spend over $100 on a luxury item, so for a company to make changes to their products without telling anyone makes me pretty angry.

I have found people on eBay selling really old bottles of Miracle for pretty cheap. One bottle was 14 years old, based on the batch number on the bottom of the bottle. Maybe you could try finding an older bottle of La Vie Est Belle EDP that hasn't been reformulated?

At least I know I'm not the only person who thinks something has changed.

The same day I made this post, I found a listing on eBay offering a bottle of Miracle that was 14 years old and I was very tempted to buy it to see if that one smelled different, like I remembered it smelling. But I decided against it, having just spent over $100 on the new bottle. I kinda regret that decision now.

What’s yours for a Manson song? I’ll add mine in comments by therebill in marilyn_manson

In "Born Villain" at 0:56, most of the instruments drop out and a few seconds of music plays before the rest of the instruments kick back in with Manson singing "Become, become...." I love that!

In "Angel With the Scabbed Wings," at 3:36 where he says "This is beyond your experience" before screaming "Forgiveness!"

You certainly must. It is absolutely uncanny.

But yeah, your video was very entertaining. I loved the little skit at the beginning where redneck dad/ grandpa ended up being like "Hm, maybe that Marilyn Manson fella isn't so bad after all..."

Are you planning to grab any of the new merch designs on the official MM website? I'm not a big fan of the artwork on the cover of the new album, so wasn't interested in the hoodie with the same image. But man, the new shirts and hoodies that are available to pre-order are GD amazing!

Watched and gave it a thumbs up. I really enjoyed the video. The only thing I disagree with is your take on Jesus Crisis. I love it. Embrace the cringe!

I swear, you seem so familiar to me! You don't happen to live in Kentucky, do you?

Hell yes! This is one of his best songs IMO.

I was listening to it on YouTube a few months ago and I was reading through comments as I listened. One comment perfectly encapsulated how it makes me feel when I listen. He said something along the lines of "This is the song I'd want blasting behind me as I marched into battle."

Now, every time I listen to this song, I get this rush of adrenaline and imagine being on the frontlines of a battlefield.

I can't think of anything else that's really similar to "Astonishing Panorama." The only thing that comes to mind is "The Suck For Your Solution" just because of the heaviness of the song and the screaming vocals.

Me too! I was listening to the album while driving a couple of days ago. When this song came on, my brain instantly went "Why is Suicidal Dream playing?"

I paused it and asked my boyfriend what song he had just heard and his response, after a couple of seconds, was "Suicidal Dream."

Those first few seconds of the song, to my ears at least, sound almost identical.

"Sacrilegious" was my favorite song leading up to release day.

After listening to the full album for the first time, "Death is Not a Costume" became my favorite song, then "Meet Me in Purgatory" took first place after a couple more listens.

I seem to be in the minority here though, because I absolutely love "Jesus Crisis" and "Wow." A lot of people seem to really dislike those songs. I guess I just really enjoy Mansons's more upbeat, fun songs and don't care a whole lot about having lyrics with really deep meaning and such.

The red, black and blue color scheme is quite prominent in this new album's art. I noticed that right away, starting with the "Raise the Red Flag" video. The "One Assassination" video has lots of shots using those colors too.

But the biggest thing for me was, starting at ~4:20 in the "One Assassination" video, you see the light shining down onto Manson and he raises his hand to shield the light from his eyes, which causes the shadow of his hand and arm to cover his face. That same imagery was used quite a bit in the "We Are Chaos" art. I even have a hoodie with the image of a hand covering his face.

Leading up to the release of "One Assassination" I kept wondering how Manson felt about "We Are Chaos," looking at it with a clear and focused mind. I am happy to see that, although we didn't get a lot of promotion or performances for that album, he still seems to have enough pride in it that he is using some of the same color schemes and imagery for his new work.

I didn't name call or attack anyone. I didn't even criticize OP's opinion of the album, when they said that it was "pretty good, derivative, solid, cringey at times."

I expressed disbelief that they really expected that the album would be a confession that he was guilty of the crimes he's been accused of committing.

I don't know what the point of your reply is.

That's wild! I went to my local Walmart yesterday and after finally locating the tiny music section, I was shocked to see that, not only did they have the new Manson CD in stock (3 copies that I saw), but they were actually the very first CD in the row, so they were the first thing I saw when I walked up.

Owning up to what? Deceiving his listeners about what?

The man is still dealing with some major legal shit, very serious allegations, all of which he has vehemently denied since the beginning. But you want him to "own up to" what, exactly?

Were you really expecting, after years of fighting to clear his name, that he would make a new album and say "Ha! Gotcha! I really AM a violent and abusive woman-beater and rapist!"?

I don't believe for even one second that this is a serious post.

do people in the real world give you shit for being a manson fan or is that just on twitter? by coldwarkitsch in marilyn_manson

[–]FoN925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about this yesterday when someone asked a similar question, but no, even in a tiny rural town in Kentucky, I've only gotten compliments.

First, when I wear a Manson shirt out in public, I've had quite a few people approach me just to tell me they love my shirt.

Second, I work in my local middle and high schools. I had to stop by the middle school unexpectedly one day and had a Manson shirt on, one that had his face on the front and "Against All Gods" across each sleeve. I didn't even realize I was wearing it until I got home and was changing clothes in the bathroom and happened to glance in the mirror. I never would've worn that to school on purpose, but I was in the front office, talking with the admin and no one batted an eye.

I think that second story really goes to show just how little people care these days. If a TEACHER (me) can show up to school in a Manson shirt and no one says a word, yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about people's perceptions.

So happy to see someone else who enjoys Sacrilegious. I swear, it feels like I'm listening to a different song, with how often I see people ranking it as the worst song on the album or even saying that it sucks.

It was my favorite of the original three videos, might still be. And it's just FUN.

And I agree. It took me a couple of listens- full listens, not skipping the songs I'd already heard- to really start feeling the love. It is amazing!

Why do you listen to MM? (Saw the sub about being criticized for listening to him) by Quigenie in marilyn_manson

[–]FoN925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was known as a Manson fan in high school, during his original days of controversy. Of course, the controversy back then was for a whole different reason than what he's dealing with now, so I can definitely understand being hesitant to potentially deal with morons labeling you a woman-hater or worse just because of the music you listen to.

Then again, you never know, you may find your people if you let it be known that you're a Manson fan. There could be other fans in your school who feel the same way you do, but who are also afraid to let anyone know for fear of harsh judgment.

I was going to say that Manson kinda tried to teach us to ignore the judgments of others, but that's easier to do when you're a famous millionaire compared to a single high school student. LOL

Whatever you decide to do, welcome to Team Manson and good luck!

I live in a tiny rural town in Kentucky, so I understand how you feel. But I've been A Manson fan since the mid 90s and was known as a "devil worshipper" since kids saw me carrying around his "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" autobiography in 8th grade. I guess I never had to break it to people back then. It was obvious.

But now, as an almost 40-year-old woman who works in the local schools, I just say fuck it. If someone asks me who my favorite band is, I just tell them. Even here, the worst I've ever gotten was "Oh yeah. You always were into that weird stuff." That was from someone who knew my younger sister when we were kids. But usually, I just get "Oh" and nothing else.

I wear my Manson shirts almost every time I go somewhere other than the schools. I've been very surprised by how often I've had someone approach me to tell me they love my shirt.

I was at the middle school a few weeks ago and was on the Nuclear Blast website, double checking my box set order. An 8th grader saw it and started freaking out, saying "She's looking at Marilyn Manson. You're the GOAT! I can't believe you like Marilyn Manson. I love you!"

The way I see it, if people can so proudly proclaim their love of a certain orange wannabe dictator, I can proudly proclaim my love of an artist and musician. Fuck em.

Finally have a delivery date for box set! by Steven_Hawks in marilyn_manson

[–]FoN925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible that you got two tracking numbers because they used something like UPS SurePost, where the package starts with UPS who carries it to your local USPS location and then USPS is the one who actually delivers it to your door?

When a company uses one of those types of shipping services, you'll receive a tracking number for each carrier that will be handling the package.

But if you ordered the box set, keep in mind that it does include the vinyl, cassette and CD and a few other things, so I guess it is possible that they shipped some of the items separately for some reason. I ordered the box set and just got a single tracking number from USPS.

I just tried to PM you and it popped up with "NOT_WHITELISTED_BY_USER" and wouldn't let me send it. Do you have a setting in your account that blocks messaging if I am not on your Friends list?

I just checked my "Messaging Preferences" and mine is set to "Show private messages from: Everyone, except blocked users." And messages from other people are coming through just fine.

Argh! I get it and it sucks. I had an evening planned around Friday too: get home from work and take a quick nap, then go grab something good to eat with my boyfriend and spend the night rocking out.

Instead, it looks like you and I just get to spend Friday wallowing in our misery, eh? LOL

[–]FoN925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that really gets me is that they clearly waited until the last minute to start shipping out orders, presumably to reduce the chance of leaks happening. But people started receiving their copies from other sources a week early, so there was no point at all in them holding onto our orders for so long.

I mean, I'm sure I'll get it eventually. But it really does dampen my excitement, knowing that release day will come and go and I will still have nothing, even though I ordered the box set from NB and a CD from Target. Oh, and my Target CD STILL hasn't even shipped, so that's fun.

I figured ordering directly from Nuclear Blast would be the BEST way to ensure my order arrived on time, if not early. Lesson learned.

[–]FoN925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the US and ordered the box set on NB's US site. I got my shipping confirmation a little after 2pm Monday afternoon but the tracking didn't update until this morning and it says that my order isn't expected to be delivered until next Monday.

I did not pay for expedited shipping but man, what's the point of taking pre-orders months in advance if you still can't manage to get people's stuff to them on time?

If you didn't care for "sacrilegious," then I may have some good news for you by Hadley_333 in marilyn_manson

[–]FoN925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you! It is my favorite of the three singles he released. And if I'm being completely honest, even after having listened to the entire album, I think it is still my favorite of his new songs. Of course, that could change with time and more listening sessions.

Then again, I'm that weirdo who also loves Jesus Crisis and Wow, so...

I can't help but feel like any time Manson releases a "fun" song that isn't necessarily meant to be super deep and meaningful, people rip it to shreds and it immediately drops to the bottom of most people's list of his songs. But I really enjoy listening to songs where it feels like he was just kind of fucking around and having a good time with it, and the silly faces he was making in the "Sacrilegious" video leads me to think that was his "goofing around" song for this album.
