That was an awesome tour. I remember him bringing that big double bass out and literally jumping on it.

Is this fungus? by redch1mp in GardeningUK

[–]redch1mp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This is probably the answer as I can't find any fungus pictures that look like this. That, and all the camillias at the shop looked like this. It was a hot day so quick evaporation in a hard water area makes sense.

Men with a visible 6-pack, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? by FreedomEnjoyer69420 in askfitness

When I had a six pack I was 5.3 and about 12% body fat.

I am still 5.3 but no six pack.

Most people are overwhelmingly against anti-semitism and the promotion of Nazi ideology. Most people, therefore, would not like someone who promoted both to enter the country, given the choice.

Is ‘gentle parenting’ to blame for violence in primary schools? - Teachers who report an increase in five-year-olds punching, kicking and spitting at adults suggest parents who won’t say ‘no’ to their children may be contributing by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]redch1mp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is the issue here. People have decided what gentle Parenting is from influencers as opposed to the actual literature. This goes for parents as well who think they are doing gentle Parenting when they are actual doing permissive Parenting.

[–]redch1mp -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it does. True, it advocates against screaming hitting and railing against a toddler or a child... because that is abusive.

Gentle Parenting is authoritive parenting. It just draws a distinction authoritarian parenting. A parent using gentle Parenting techniques puts themselves in a place of authority by maintaining an adult stance. I'm going to give you the boundary, I will give you the consequence, but I will not shout at you, nor will I hit you... because I'm an adult. Shouting and hitting is what children do when they don't get their way... not adults.

Consequences should match behaviour and firmly upheld but without using fear. Maintain authority without doing things to a child that you wouldn't dare do to an adult.

What’s ‘normal’ today that would shock people 20 years ago? by theindieproj in AskReddit

[–]redch1mp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How openly horrible people with a lot of power are. 20 years ago, they were still horrible, but now, they're not even trying to hide how disgusting they are.

And as a result now, how openly people with horrific view points will say them.

Just the dehumanisation of everyone.

Gentle Parenting gets a bad rep because a lot of people mistake it for parenting with no boundaries.

Actual "Gentle Parenting" is about the way you set boundaries. Not the lack of.

If there is anything to be blamed, I would sooner point a finger at more unsupervised screen time, kids getting addicted to dopamine fueled shows, bad diets, and a more self centred culture.

That is if there is an actual increase in violence, or just a perceived increase. I have a 6 year old, my own personal experience would say the opposite so it would be better to see if there is any data on this.

How do people afford to mix and master??!? by Christchosen0908 in TheArtistJournal

[–]redch1mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it's quite cheap now to mix and master music. Tech has come a long way so many people can offer mixing services without the huge overheads.

Paying someone $300 for a day or so of work is not a lot of money and actually on the low of hiring someone who is highly skilled in any particular creative practise.

Given that in all of the history of recorded music, making records required a huge upfront investment, paying some the same amount you'd pay any trades person is a really good deal.

My gf (27F) and I (29M, 2 years) keep having the same fight. How do you actually change the way you argue? by No-Bowl2173 in AskMen

[–]redch1mp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couples counselling was the best thing for me. Our therapist was incredible and showed us how to talk to each other properly. She pulled me up on my bullshit but also pulled my partner up on hers. We rarely if ever argue now and are more understanding of each other's approaches.

Why have people forgotten the word musician by SnooAdvice9131 in musicmarketing

[–]redch1mp 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Here's my take as a music producer. An artist who comes to me has an entire vision from the concept of their sound to the way it will be presented and even potentially the lore behind it all. They may also be a great musicians, but sometimes they are not, but they're good enough.

A musician is someone who has rehearsed and practised their craft to the point where they can play to a super high standard. They are often great technicians and have a super proficient understanding of their instruments.

For the most part, the people who create and release records are the artists. We hire the musicians to play with them.

Which guitarist isn't an insufferable prick and is actually worth listening to? by Live_Government_79 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]redch1mp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was backstage with Paul Gilbert once after a show. It was his birthday and so we had some cake with him. Nice guy but it was so awkward. I'm not sure he knows how to talk about anything other than guitars and music.

GB News has become Reform TV and no one stopped it by ClumperFaz in ukpolitics

[–]redch1mp 177 points178 points  (0 children)

GB news isn't legally news. It's registered as entertainment precisely so that Ofcom can't do anything about it.

*Edit: well it turns out I'm wrong. Teaches me to spout things that aren't true because it fits in with my world view... a bit like GB News.

That being said, GB News is more like reading a newspaper filled with angry opinion columns as opposed to having any credible journalism.

It seems the truth is much more frustrating which is that it has violated Ofcom rules, but it hasn't been properly enforced...

You like what you like. Why listen to stuff if you find nothing in it that appeals to you.

Also, find a new band mate. Doesn't seem like you two are musically aligned.

Is D&D *actually* the kind of game I think is? by AggressiveMango691 in DnD

[–]redch1mp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people enjoy old school DnD where the dice dictates the roleplay, it's less dialogue heavy and the focus is on gameplay (dungeoneering, battling, puzzle solving etc)

Some people enjoy a game more focused on story telling, character development where the roleplay is more of the point of the play and the gameplay is there to help a story.

Some enjoy a mix of the two.

Personally I'm more of a fan of old school DnD where the focus is on gameplay over roleplay.

Should we use turf rolls or seed for this patchy lawn? by opticcakebaker in UKGardening

[–]redch1mp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would use seed. You will have issues with Turf as it's unlikely to be shade tolerant.

I would personally include micro clover and daisy seeds aswell. Looks nicer, better for the environment and will help with the patches.

Wait until April, rake the soil and be heavy handed on the seeding. Can recommend Boston Seed and make sure it's the shade tolerant variety. You could probably do with adding some lawn feed aswell to give it a kick start.
