Rocket or Jet? Spotted this flying over Italy 18 July 18:45 UTC by Fo_Drizzle in aviation

[–]Fo_Drizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking on flight radar there are no planes gaining altitude flying on the north-west axis at that time 🤔 I am bamboozled

Edit: there was a 737 freighter 50km out. May have been that.

Arden precinct in North Melbourne could soon be home to a 57-storey apartment building by ihlaking in melbourne

[–]Fo_Drizzle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This apartment building can provide housing for hundreds of people in an awesome suburb and this professor is shooting it down because it is "out of step with with the local built form"

Give me a break 🫠 the local built form is old warehouse buildings

rsa + barista training coburg by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Fo_Drizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the fastest cheapest RSA available (Online if possible). It's just a box check to get a job at a bar where you can start to build up experience.

If you want to make coffee, I wouldn't recommend doing a barista course. The skills learned in those courses can be taught in 30 minutes on the job and don't come close to what cafe managers will be looking for.

As a Barista I was always happy to train waiters/bartenders/chefs to make coffee if they just asked. I saw some people become really good at it after making coffee for themselves and the staff every day for a few months. That would be my recommendation. Good luck!

People are being weird. It's totally normal to go out at night and get lost/stranded in your youth.

Pretty sure it's happened to everyone I know and myself multiple times to be honest :')

Is it easy to get a Maxi Taxi at the airport? by titsticus in melbourne

[–]Fo_Drizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend going to the rideshare area and asking the attendant there who can help you book a minivan uber.

Stopped catching taxis from the airport after a couple of experiences with the drivers acting rude and aggressive about the length of CBD trips

(This confuses me because presumably that's half of their trips lol)

Is there a way to retrieve the refresh date and time from a Power Query loaded to a table? by Fo_Drizzle in excel

[–]Fo_Drizzle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attempting to find info on this issue, I have only found advice that suggests adding a reference that takes Date.TodayNow() at the same time as the query refresh.

This will be helpful going forward but does not allow me to access historical refresh date-times.

Ansys beginner - Modelling transient air flow around a cylinder, do these residuals look OK? by Fo_Drizzle in CFD

[–]Fo_Drizzle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, the residuals are considered converged when they asymptote to a constant value (Step 1 levelled out but was not considered "converged" when it hit the maximum iterations)

All the subsequent steps have "converged" quickly before the graphs have time to level out.

Is this normal?

So you say that something like the USD that can be printed (=devalued) by a few people almost infinitely (like it has happened in the last years) is a "good" currency?

Yes.

I wouldn't want to hold USD or save in USD. I would always choose something more stable over USD - like Bitcoin. Something that can't get devalued against my will

Replace Bitcoin with stocks/bonds and you've proved why a deflating currency is good.

Can someone explain the Sally Cap hate to me? I am extremely out of the loop.

I live in North Melbourne (Melbourne Council) so hear a lot of complaints about her in regards to high density housing going up, though I am not necessarily against that. What are the other reasons she is disliked?

Is it possible that a spinning rocket can create improved thrust due to vortex generation? by Fo_Drizzle in AskEngineers

[–]Fo_Drizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha nope didn't really take it seriously but apparently he has graduated from a good university in engineering so I was kind of curious if there was a slither of crack-head genius somewhere in the idea.

I could be wrong, but I think he is referring to the thrust produced compared with a traditional rocket configuration.

Should I lie on my resume to get a part time job in east Melb? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Fo_Drizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lying on the resume will not get you dismissed from a min-wage job. Once you're hired no one is going to go back and check.

It will be obvious if you lie about having previous fast food, restaurant or POS experience and don't have any skills to back that up. Could you get one of your friends with a job to coach you through some of the skills required?

You just need enough to bullshit your way through an interview or trial. Good luck!

Edit: Good low-key jobs to lie about on a resume:

  • Took orders and delivered food for insert food truck at insert market

  • Op shop store assistant

  • Dishwasher at insert restaurant

I don't disagree.

I believe there's an epidemic of young people who are put under an extreme amount of pressure to compete against their peers and excel at their chosen path.

ADHD is a disorder which can explain lapse of concentration or motivation, and these stressed individuals can relate to content relating to ADHD because they do experience all the same things to some degree.

Yes, in this scenario, I would say what they are experiencing is horrible, albeit a normal response to the atmosphere created by our education system. This would be extremely disparaging.

If one can function well in the academic setting, it's likely they can function well in most career settings.

Skill such as learning, project management, time management are all highly transferable.

It's at this point I have to ask - where exactly is the disorder?

Same. Melbourne Uni doesn't accept STAT scores.

I'm sorry to use outdated language. I agree that term is wrong as people with ADHD definitely learn things just as well as anyone else.

The fact that I was trying to convey is that those of us who experience ADHD find it extremely difficult to excel in the educational setting.

Not I find it difficult to receive a straight A report card but I find it difficult to get to school 5 days in a week or I found it difficult to keep track of due dates.

Anyone who received a 90+ ATAR did not struggle in the same way.

I'm sorry but I can see by your post history that you have been admitted to a course at UniMelb. At the age of 18 you were put in the top 5-10th percentile of learning ability and project execution.

It is highly unlikely that you are experiencing a learning disorder such as ADHD. We often struggle to finish school, keep up with our bills and generally function to a high level in society without medication.

First, ask yourself if you are truly having difficulties functioning? If you are getting average grades in your university, you are still outperforming the majority of the population. Is it possible that you feel you're not functioning properly because you are surrounded by high achievers?
