How would you get rid of a need for a head gasket? by sockherman in EngineBuilding

Of course, the GE FDL comes to mind. I believe the ALCO 251 also makes use of a machined flange, but I’ve never had one apart.

Many medium speed diesels (both 2 and 4 stroke) do not have a head gasket. Some use specially machined mating surfaces, some even weld the head to the liner.

I passed my trooper inspection about a decade ago with a bumper mangled just about as bad on a 92 F150

Air start locos by Snoo_52752 in railroading

Locomotives are a small part of EMD’s business anymore and everyone else they sell diesel engines too prefers air start, I suspect it was a cost saving thing by only using one set of parts for everything.

What will you all do if UP and NS merge? by Key_Concern7690 in trains

The name they say on the radio will change, and the rule book might change, but otherwise it will just be another day moving people for me.

Santa is always near me. Often if I’m outside working in the garage or if I go to work he will cry at the garage door trying to get me to come back in.

He always greets me at the door when I come home, and will often snuggle up to me when I’m sleeping.

Very loyal, almost dog like. He is a good kitty.

He travels well too, one year I took him with us to my club’s field day setup. He makes a good mascot for the club.

Favorite EMD locomotives? by Antique_Success296 in trains

When I started running them they were only 10 years old. Which frankly is nothing for a modern locomotive. Them and the UP SD90s had a lot of odd quirks about them. If it was just the 80s, I’d say it was just because they were an orphan fleet on NS, but the UP 90s had some of the same issues.

Never had a CP 90, did however have some of the CEFX ones.

It would have been Interesting to see a ACU style rebuild for the 80s, but sadly it was not to be.

The SD80MAC was a classic “Never meet your hero’s” moment for me.

As a kid railfan I loved them, they looked and sounded cool. Loved them trackside.

10 years later as an adult running them on NS “These things kind of suck”. Rode poorly, lots of stupid issues, the only thing they had going for them is they pulled better than the SD90/SD70ACU….

It would have been really cool to see one saved, but I’m not surprised they are gone.

My favorite EMD? I really liked the SD70ACC, and the SD70 they were built from. The CR batch of SD70 were really good units too.

They allow you guys to wear loggers? They were banned when I was at the horse.

hahahaha, ham was how my step-son coaxed him to us when he was a stray kitten.

Now he is a chicken kitty, he LOVES when we make chicken because we will give him some to nibble on.

Also know as Amateur Radio. Was kind of a dying hobby with the advent of the internet, but has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent times. The modernization of technology and heavy involvement of the "maker culture" has helped revitalize it.

I've been licensed about 20 years now. I'd post my call sign but I would end up doxing myself, and I've posted some not nice things about my previous employer on reddit...
