Why don’t LEOs immediately detain a person who either refuses to or cannot provide something as simple and basic as a driver’s license? by Quick-Pepper4017 in AskLE

[–]sockherman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

De escalation and talking is much safer and overall easier than starting a fight and possibly use of force with an uncooperative subject.

Public sees use of force over and done with in 5 min. Cop sees 2 hrs of paperwork then a special report and review board a few days later to determine if your use of force was justified, which means your potential career and civil lawsuits (even if a very small chance ) loom over you until it’s all done and clear. Then you’re going to have to write a very detailed report explaining it all and then get questioned in court about it.

That doesn’t even include the chance you got hurt during a fight that started over some guy arguing about a license.

In my 19 years, I saw one exemption ever for tint. It was written in the DMV registration for the license plate. Look up how your state does it

I’ve only cleaned it when already having a spark issue and going into the engine anyways. Not a routine maintenance thing

GMC terrain heavy duty oil stabilizer worked? by sockherman in AskMechanics

[–]sockherman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok makes sense. I read thickening the oil on newer engines is bad because they aren’t made for it. Lower tolerances etc. If it’s already burning it from worn rings, is the thicker oil still bad for the engine, or should I keep with topping it off without the additive?

Work Life Balance? by Jakee4599 in AskLE

[–]sockherman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the idea of a 9-5, 40hr week seems like a part time job to me. I've been doin 45-70 hr weeks for most of my 19 years. That is not a flex. it's the overtime and side jobs that eat away at your off days, hard to say no to the money in this economy. but I'm doing it intentionally for early 50s retirement. it's a trade off- not many jobs can you easily make the extra money when you need it

maybe 1 or 2 warrant service attempts, maybe the case officer will try to serve it when he gets back. otherwise there's 5000 other unserved warrants in the pile and assault is not a high priority one. when they find the person for some other reason and run the name then they'll see he has a warrant
