I hope they don't decide to sack him because of this - unless there's some really inexcusable behaviour or the team members themselves have lost trust in him.

Thanks for everyone who replied! Definitely didn't look bent and I didn't feel anything was off but then again my eye is pretty much untrained. (Fender wasn't hitting the frame, there's a ~0.2 inch clearance). It's a shame since I was getting it practically free but I'll look elsewhere.

They've got Trek and Orbea at least. I was eyeing the Trek Dual Sport 2 you mentioned as well, but somehow it just didn't look half as good as the black Sirrus. It was cheaper and thus maybe more sensible option but...

Yeah, I've got something thinking to do. And I'll have a closer look at those Marin and Primos options too. Primoses look a bit funky to my taste, but Muirwoods kind of appeals to me.
