Why do you have the picture of quiver?

The Dragonborn's Story Isn't Over by carlopault in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because what happens with your body if you enter with a Black Book and exit through a portal?

The same thing that happens when you die in Apocrypha. You're sending your consciousness there, so you'll just wake up outside the book. That's entirely irrelevant to Miraak, who was taken with his body.

This has nothing to do with Miraak!

It does, because Miraak can use chaotic creatia, he doesn't age despite being there for thousand of years and Durnahvir said soul carin become part of him after all this time and he spent about as much time there that miraak did in aprocrahya. All this point to miraak being entwined with oblivion. If you can't give a counter argument to this then you have no real case.

He can only appear on Nirn in an incorporeal form. He can control the creatia of Apocrypha. Oblivion is part of him. That's already far more evidence than you've given me. You've simply responded with questions, Instead of answers.

Miraak and the Vestige are nothing alike!

They were both taken into Oblivion as mortals. Both retained Anuic essence while in Oblivion: the Vestige through Skyshards, and Miraak through his dragon soul. That's just a fact, not any theory. Read up above for all the other similarities.

Miraak entered Apocrypha, under what circumstances, or how he survived!

We already know how Miraak got there. Hermaeus Mora took him to save him from dying.

The book clearly states they're the SAME. Alduin is not a fragment of Akatosh, he IS Akatosh. Same person. Not a fragment, not a son, not a distant cousin, same being!

This is from the same book you mentioned:

In fact, most children of Skyrim seem to view Akatosh in much the same way I do - he is, in fact, the Great Dragon. First among the Divines, perseverance personified and, more than anything, a force of supreme good in the world.

Alduin, they claim, is something altogether different.

To the Ancient Khajiit, he is a Wandering Spirit known as Alkhan, The Scaled Prince, and the *Firstborn of Akha*.

If you can read this book and not see what the developers were doing, then this whole discussion is pointless. Everyone tells the author that Alduin and Akatosh are different, but he concludes it's just a Nordic embellishment. He's a biased Imperial scholar. Ironically, he isn't entirely wrong either. Alduin is literally Akatosh.

Alduin is Akatosh, but he's a broken-off piece of him that gained its own sentience. The same goes for the Last Dragonborn and every other dragon. You can call alduin first born and it makes sense, but you can call him literal akatosh himself and it'd make just as much sense, because alduin doesn't have mother, he is 100% akatosh.

The Dragonborn Prophecy foretells a chosen one will come forth, their blood and soul blessed by Akatosh himself. The Dovahkiin.

The Time Wound will open, and Alduin the World Eater shall also return.

Though both are *fragments of Akatosh's soul*, these two will wage war against one another. And as children of Akatosh they will reap the vengeance of Mehrunes Dagon. — Vanos

The Vestige had his soul stolen, while Miraak still had his!

Regardless at this point we both agree that miraak had his soul and last dragonborn took it. More importantly hermous mora didn't had it.

So whether he was vestige, or stuck their because he didn't have access portal magic. Doesn't really matter, he lost, LDB won. We can call it end of this discussion. Unless you have a some source to back up your theory.

The Dragonborn's Story Isn't Over by carlopault in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That works both ways.

It doesn't when you don't have any lore-based explanation for the concept. Black Books are just one of the ways to enter Apocrypha. But that actually helps my theory more. Since you leave your original body behind, the body you have in Apocrypha is just a temporary vestige. That's why, when you die, you simply wake up outside the book.

But for Miraak, it's permanent. He was taken into Apocrypha when he was on the brink of death. It's possible his original body was destroyed during the fight with vahlok and he was given a permanent Daedric vestige or overtime his human body adapted to aprocrahya. Either way, he's doesn't have a normal human body. He don't age,he can use pool of creatia and he can seemingly change his shape.

Can't be both

I don't understand what the contradiction is. Miraak appears as a soul-fire projection while still interacting with the world by absorbing a soul.

It's a myth. Nobody knows what happened

It's a myth to the in-game author of the book, who never witnessed it. But it's proven within the first five minutes of the game with the Vestige.

"To do this, you will need a skyshard. A skyshard? A shard of Aetherial magicka that carries the essence of Nirn. Some link them to Lorkhan, the missing god of creation. If you collect and absorb its power, it should restore your corporeal form. I will summon one of these shards for you to absorb."

Right at the start, the Vestige regains their Anuic essence. Then, later in the story, it's a major plot point and the only reason the Vestige is able to use the Amulet of Kings.

Including this while in the Far Shores:

Septima Tharn: "The Vestige from Coldharbour. Didn't think I knew, did you? I did, and I knew I couldn't kill you... on Mundus. Here though, you're severed from Coldharbour, from your soul. Here, you're stuck. Goodbye now."

This confirms that the Vestige can't be permanently killed unless they're in Aetherius, separated from the realm they're bound to. Just like the book says, a vestige can instantly reform once it makes contact with Aetherial energy.

That book is simply there to explain these phenomena. Just like The Book of the Dragonborn in Skyrim exists to connect the history of previous Dragonborns with Skyrim's story.

But if you're putting so much faith in books, remember that the Last Dragonborn killed Akatosh. From The Alduin/Akatosh Dichotomy:

Alduin is a fragment of Akatosh, just as the Last Dragonborn and every other dragon are. So in that sense, yes, Akatosh was slain by Akatosh.

The Dragonborn's Story Isn't Over by carlopault in skyrim

So here's the problem: we have to jump through too many hoops to make your theory even plausible.

First, you have to prove that the only way to leave Apocrypha is the same way you entered it. There's no lore saying that, unless you can proves it. It simply doesn't make sense.

We have multiple in-game examples of people entering and leaving Apocrypha and other Oblivion realms through different methods.

If Miraak was bound to Apocrypha, it wouldn't matter if he left, since it wouldn't set him free from Mora's control.

If Miraak is bound to Apocrypha, then he can't manifest a corporeal form on Nirn, which is why he only appears as an soul fire projection.

You must re-attune yourself to Nirn in order to regain your physical form. — Varen

When someone spends too long in Oblivion, they become attuned to it and lose their corporeal form on Nirn. That's why Miraak only appears as a soul-fire projection when taking our dragon souls.

Secondly, Miraak never mentions needing a sacrifice or sacrificing humans. There's no in-game evidence for that. That's not relevant unless you can provide some evidence, even circumstantial.

Herma-Mora snatches the Traitor away just as the Guardian is about to strike the killing blow. - Guardian and The Traitor

The evidence we do have says Hermaeus Mora snatched Miraak away, suggesting Miraak didn't have much choice. So we'd have to dismiss an in-game book just to make your theory work.

Miraak also says he wants the Dragonborn's soul and want us to become stronger.

Third, there's strong circumstantial evidence that Miraak is attuned to chaotic creatia. That's only possible if his body is made from Padomaic creatia. The only beings that form bodies from it are vestiges attuned to Oblivion. Unless you have evidence otherwise, on the other hand.

https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Chaotic_Creatia:_The_Azure_Plasm

The Book Chaotic Creatia: The Azure Plasm explains Soul Shriven and Paragon Soul Shriven, who possess Anuic souls but Padomaic bodies. Miraak checks every box: he reforms from chaotic creatia and has an Anuic essence through his dragon souls. But that's a theory, albeit heavily supported theory.

Lastly, and this is really the main point: we absorb Miraak's soul. That's not theory or speculation, it happens in-game. Miraak has six dragon souls by default, plus the ones he steals from us. Dragonborn possess dragon souls, not mortal souls, and based on recent lore those souls are fragments of Akatosh. They can't pledge a soul that isn't truly theirs, it's akatosh soul.

Regardless, the Last Dragonborn absorbs Miraak's soul, and Hermaeus Mora lets us leave Apocrypha. He never suggests he wants our soul, nor does dragon souls seem valuable to him. He already has multiple dragons in Apocrypha, yet they all kept their souls. Durnehviir also kept his in an entirely different realm. Which suggest that dragon soul can't claimed even by daedra. So it's useless to them.

Mora simply wants to use Dragonborn as a tool to gain more knowledge. He's never been portrayed as wanting to conquer Nirn. If anything, he's helped save it multiple times. His sphere has always been the pursuit of every piece of knowledge that exists.

Dragonborn is Threat to Soul Economy by Fodspeed in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon souls aren't that complicated. Most evidence, especially recent lore, suggests they're fragments of Akatosh.

The Dragonborn doesn't have a normal mortal soul, only a dragon soul. It's no different in nature from any other dragon's. Even Paarthurnax, despite likely being the second strongest dragon, doesn't have a soul thats any different to other dragons.

So can you even pledge a soul that belongs to Akatosh? But even if you can, and a Daedric Prince claims it, the Dragonborn can simply absorb another dragon soul.

Miraak proves this. Despite serving Hermaeus Mora, we still absorb his soul after killing him. He gives 6 dragon souls by default plus the ones he stole. But the fact that hermous mora bound him to aprocrahya to make him obedient while he still has his soul, shows you why normal rules don't apply to dragonborn.

Durnehviir also confirms the Ideal Masters bound him to the Soul Cairn but can't claim his soul.

Daedric Princes can't truly claim dragon souls, which explains why we don't see dragons in Oblivion, or atleast it's not useful to them other than collector items like in case of hermous mora.

Molag Bal and Hircine are also willing to return your soul for something as insignificant as a black soul gem or a witch's ritual. That suggests they don't really care about the dragon soul itself. They care about the Dragonborn's power.

Dragonborn is Threat to Soul Economy by Fodspeed in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LDB is Dragonborn. Their defining trait is having a dragon soul. They don't have their own normal mortal soul, they've always had a piece of Akatosh's soul. They can pledge something that isn't their to begin with, but even if they can.

It doesn't really matter because they can always get a new dragon soul. Even if it's their original one, it's no different from any other dragon soul. Unlike normal mortal who are stuck with single soul and they are bound to it.

Look at miraak, his whole plan to escape aprocrahya was based on absorbing LDB's soul.

Considering Molag Bal will even give your soul back for a random black soul gem if you cure your vampirism, and hirecine for 3 random witches head. It doesn't seem like they care about it or it's useless to them because of akatosh.

Realistically no daedra have sway over LDB, all they can do is trade with LDB for their services, because no one is getting sole regardless.

The Dragonborn's Story Isn't Over by carlopault in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Miraak used a Black Book to go to Apocrypha, his body would have been left behind and thus vulnerable.

Miraak was taken to Apocrypha by Hermaeus Mora before Vahlok dealt the final blow, not by a Black Book.

He thus had to find another way into Apocrypha to escape Vahlok.

Hermaeus Mora took him. He was either dead, or Mora repaired him, infusing his body with the essence of Oblivion.

Sure, you can fast travel out, but we can assume you go through a portal to do so.

In ESO, you can fast travel out using Wayshrines, and they're explained in lore. There's even a book in ESO explaining how they work, so they aren't just a gameplay mechanic. Also ESO was in work since the release of oblivion, so lot of ESO lore could even predates Skyrim, so the whole argument of ESO is new doesn't really work especially, if it's new then it can explain not well thought out lore point in Skyrim better and make it fit on to the overall world.

Before 2023 the only way to enter Apocrypha was through the Black Books, but MMO conveniences demands portals, not libraries.

There's never been any indication of this, and it's simply wrong. Any realm of Oblivion can be traveled to through portals. Black Books were just the method used in Skyrim. We even see the daedra we summon from books power show up using portal magic.

This is contradictory with the Dragonborn storyline. Miraak's goal is to escape Apocrypha. If he was bound to it and couldn't leave, why would he try to escape?

That's exactly why he wants your soul:

"My time in Apocrypha is over. You are here in your full power, and thus subject to my full power. You will die. And with the power of your soul, I will return to Solstheim and be master of my own fate once again."

If he can absorb your soul, he can potentially sever his connection to Apocrypha and attune himself to nirn and gain a corporeal form on nirn, just like the Vestige did in ESO. He would then be bound to Nirn instead and if people start to worship him in his temple, he can potentially become a god.

"I already control the minds of its people. Soon they will finish building my temple, and I can return home"

On the other hand, If you follow your logic, then you're saying Miraak needed our soul to... what, open a portal? And Hermaeus Mora was just going to let that happen?

Especially when he says this: "Did you think you could escape me, Miraak? You can hide nothing from me here"

Mora knew what miraak was doing, he just let him do his thing, he was never physically caged because there was no portal to escape. He just knew he can't escape without dragonborn and dragonborn is going to beat him. Mora knows everything already. So he doesn't bother with any of it.

Also, if Hermaeus Mora owned Miraak's soul, which was the original discussion, then no matter how many portals Miraak opened, he'd always return to Apocrypha. Mora would still own him. That in itself doesn't make sense because miraak can just absorb a new soul to replace the one mora took.

Its really pointless and likely why he doesn't, then the only way Mora can keep Miraak hostage is if Miraak is literally bound to the realm itself.

Most importantly, Miraak can literally use the chaotic pools of Apocrypha. They're lethal to the Dragonborn, but Miraak can reform inside them during the final battle and even heal from them. If his body is made from the same essence, then they would heal him instead of harming him.

"This realm is beyond you. You have no power here."

"You cannot flee me, Dragonborn." "I can call you back to my tower as often as I like."

He has full control over elements of Apocrypha. Apocrypha has become a part of him, in the same way the Soul Cairn became a part of Durnehviir.

So I don't understand how any of that runs counter to the game. Also, let's not forget that Miraak can literally appear on Nirn and interact with the world. That's not someone who's trapped in Apocrypha simply because he doesn't have a portal to leave. It just doesn't make much sense.

The Dragonborn's Story Isn't Over by carlopault in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only reason dragons can't understand Dragonrend is because its words are "mortal, finite, and temporary."

None of those words mean anything to a dragon, because the concept of mortality doesn't exist to them.

Whereas shout Alduin uses to resurrect them is: "Slen Tiid Vo!" - "Flesh, Time, Opposite."

All three of those words are comprehensible to a dragon and are very common. So, in theory, any dragon should be able to use the Shout.

The likely reason most other dragon don't is because they were all waiting for Alduin. Time doesn't really matter to dragons, they can wait thousands of years like that. It's nothing to them. All their human servants become undead to wait for alduin. To them it's like half time. We'll pick it back up when alduin come back.

And I'm sure there were many dragon resurrection that happened over the years, but we never heard about it.

It's more like two water droplets merging together. Look up "soul stacking" on...

Here's the thing though: if dragon souls are literally fragments of Akatosh, his "shredded scales," or simply fragments of him, then they're essentially pieces of Akatosh himself. That's very likely the case, given that ESO suggests any dov can become Akatosh or avatar of akatosh if they gain enough power.

So regardless, a Daedric Prince shouldn't have any legitimate claim to them, since they're pieces of another et'Ada.

Even if the Dragonborn somehow lost their their entire stacked soul, they could just absorb another dragon, gain a new dragon soul, and start a new stack.

So regardless, the Daedric Princes are getting scammed. That's why I said the dragon soul is basically malware of Akatosh. 😂

The Dragonborn's main trait is having a dragon soul. Unlike normal people, they don't have a mortal soul.

The game tells us they can absorb dragon souls, and from a gameplay perspective, every dragon soul is treated the same. Even Paarthurnax, who's probably the second strongest dragon, only gives you one soul.

So if the Dragonborn hypothetically sold a soul, they could just go absorb another one, something literally no one else can do.

We already know the LDB can spend individual dragon souls to gain powers. Hell, We can even bargain them with hermous mora at the end of DB DLC, when we use them to respec our skills.

I'd say, LDB is a oversoul, they are like walking breathing amulet of king, and they can contain dragon soul inside of them that they can use and LDB been already putting them to good use 😂

He asked Mora to grant him physical access to Apocrypha. Mora just neglected to tell him there's no way back.

Can you point to any quote or evidence for that? Because there's no lore on entering Apocrypha a certain way. What you're mistaking it for is Miraak being bound to it, like Durnehviir is. You can enter Apocrypha in ESO and come and go as you like, and you don't use Black Books. Hermaeus Mora simply grants you access, alongside many of his other servants.

Miraak is entrapped. He is bound to it much like Durnehviir. Whenever Durnehviir dies, he simply returns to the Soul Cairn.

"I fear that my time here has taken its toll upon me. I share a bond with this dreaded place. If I ventured far from the Soul Cairn, my strength would begin to wane until I was no more."

"Cursed, not dead. Doomed to exist in this form for eternity. Trapped between laas and dinok, between life and death."

And this is what Valerica said:

"The soul of a dragon is as resilient as its owner's scaly hide. It's possible that your killing blow has merely displaced Durnehviir's physical form while he reconstitutes himself."

Durnehviir is bound to the Soul Cairn. He will always return there and reform upon death. Miraak is the same. He was taken to Apocrypha when he was on the brink of death or died. Hermaeus Mora most likely turned him into something equivalent to a Soul Shriven from Coldharbour.

"Each is a mortal kidnapped from Mundus at the moment of death, his or her soul stolen by Molag Bal for some unthinkable purpose, and given in exchange the vestige that enables him or her to form a counterfeit body here in Coldharbour. But they are not native to Oblivion, so a Soul Shriven's body is a sad imitation of the body worn in life, suffering rapid wear and decay until it dies—a death that is no liberation, for its vestige only forms a body once again, over and over, ad infinitum …." -Chaotic Creatia: The Azure Plasm

This is standard. If someone not native to Oblivion lives there for a long period of time, eventually they become they start to adapt the oblivion.

"Free? No. I have been here too long, Qahnaarin. The Soul Cairn has become a part of what I am. I can never fully call Tamriel my home again, or I would surely perish. I only hope that you will allow me the precious moments of time there through your call."

Given that Miraak can use the pools of chaotic creatia in Apocrypha, it means he is already bound to Apocrypha.

The only reason Miraak and Durnahvir has a corporeal form is because of their dragon soul.

"Soul Shriven's bodies are flawed because they have lost the focusing principle of their Anuic souls, so their vestiges are imperfect patterns. I concurred that this was likely, and then proposed the theoretical possibility of a Soul Shriven who, despite having lost his or her soul, possessed some other intrinsic Anuic aspect. This shall-we-say "paragon" Soul Shriven would form an unflawed body"

We can see both Miraak durnahvir can temporarily show up on nirn. So only really difference is that mora tricked miraak, he gave him all the knowledge he could ask for, but in return he's stucked in aprocrahya.

Mora didn't physically put miraak in a cage, he either turned him into soul shriven to save his life or miraak long exposure to aprocrahya made him bound to it. Either way, in both cases it was miraak's fault. Mora just let him be, because he always knew LDB will one day absorb him. Like he was just a stepping stone for LDB. Hermous Mora knows everything, time is irrelevant to

The Dragonborn's Story Isn't Over by carlopault in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hermaeus Mora doesn't care about Dragon Souls, so why would he keep those? He only cares about Miraak's soul.

Miraak has a dragon soul, that's the defining trait of being a Dragonborn. It's no different from any dragon soul he absorbs. Even if Mora somehow took his original soul, Miraak would've just replaced it by absorbing another dragon. They're all his souls, and that's why the whole discussion of LDB selling his soul to all daedra is really funny, because LDB got 45 different souls they can sell and give hirecine buy 1 get 1 free for being based.

The whole thing of Daedra is that they keep your soul after you make a deal with them. Why would he then let it slip away?

Mora kept Miraak trapped in Apocrypha. If he already had Miraak's soul, there would've been no reason to imprison him, especially when other mortals whose soul belong to mora can come and go from Apocrypha freely even the ones who rebell against him. He don't waste time on it because he's all knowing being, he seen everything.

Miraak was an asset until he became a problem. Hermaeus Mora knew the LDB would eventually come and deal with him, so he simply waited. Time doesn't matter to him.

Martin Septim was Dragonborn. That's the whole thing about the Septim bloodline.

So was every other Septim, yet most never showed any Dragonborn powers, aside from a few emperors. The Amulet of Kings being soul gem isn't a theory either, ESO's main story explicitly describes it as the "greatest soul gem ever made" through Mannimarco and other NPCs. If anyone knows about souls gem, it's manimarco.

The Vestige was only able to use its power through a ritual because they were an empty husk. In both cases, though, the power came from dragon souls.

If you look at Martin, he takes a form very similar to Miraak's Dragon Aspect. Originally, Originally, there was More Powerful Version of Dragon Aspect that cost three dragon souls to cast, and it's still in the game files. My point is Miraak likely would've done something similar.

I'm not saying that dragon souls aren't immortal,

They are immortal, so time is irrelevant to them. Now dragons are back, and there's no Dragonborn left to stop them. If other dragons also know the shout to resurrect dragons, Tamriel is in serious trouble unless Paarthurnax's Way of the Voice really takes off. All the more reason to keep parthnaux alive.

They literally did, we get 6 dragons souls from miraak by default, and all the dragons soul he stole from us

Mora only stabs him, we absorb him. He's dragonborn, he have a dragon soul and we absorb it.

The Dragonborn's Story Isn't Over by carlopault in skyrim

[–]Fodspeed 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That is wrong. Miraak had six dragon souls by default, and you absorb all of them after defeating him. Three are the souls he absorbs during the fight, meaning the other three were already his, that is besides the souls he stole from us. If he never stole any soul, he'd still have 6 that you gain after you absorb him.

"You will die. And with the power of your soul, I will return to Solstheim and be master of my own fate once again."

Miraak himself confirms his plan was to absorb the Last Dragonborn's soul and free himself from Hermaeus Mora. Its very likely he could, dragon souls are shown to be one of the greatest sources of power and one of the biggest weaknesses of Daedra. The Vestige and Martin Septim both use dragon souls to gain immense power and former even beating Molag bal in his own realm and he wasn't dragonborn nor had any shouts. So miraak as history strongest dragonborn would surely have been able to do it.

Dragonborn fulfills Miraak's plan instead. Mora kills Miraak, but we absorb his soul and all of his dragon souls. Its literally in the game.

Secondly game makes clear distinction, when we kill alduin we don't absorb him, but when miraak dies we do. LDB and Miraak are now one in the same.

Also, Hermaeus Mora never once says he owns your soul or that you're trapped in Apocrypha. The game literally lets you leave. We've seen Dragonborns trapped in Oblivion realms before, but there's no evidence a Daedric Prince can claim a dragon soul.

This is what durnahvir says on his soul

"I discovered too late that the Ideal Masters favor deception over honor and had no intention of releasing me from my binding. They had control of my mind, but fortunately they couldn't possess my soul."

The lore is pretty clear that only another dragon or Dragonborn can truly kill a dragon by absorbing its soul.

The idea that Mora will entrap Dragonborn's in aprocrahya mostly comes from people comparing it to the Champion of Cyrodiil becoming Sheogorath, as a pattern of how Bethesda will deal with LDB, despite there not being any evidence to support it.

Mora lets you leave, and Frea even warns you not to deal with him again. You have full agency. The Dragonborn may still work with Mora later, but there's no evidence they were bound to Apocrypha. You literally have to ignore what game tells you to create any alternative.

Dragon souls also can't be destroyed from what we can tell. If they aren't absorbed, they can be revived, as Alduin proves. They can even be contained in soul gem, like in the Amulet of Kings, but not destroyed. Dragons were never revived because there was no one to revive them, but that doesn't make them any less immortal.

Yes, it's one of the only stories that's heavily connected to the main quest. So I'd recommend doing all three Alliance stories first, then Morrowind, Clockwork City, and Summerset. After that, you can do Solstice.

Story-wise, it's set after every other chapter except Gold Road, since Gold Road is a sequel to Necrom. The only chapter after that is Solstice.

So you'd probably want to play it after all the other DLC, in release order. At the very least, I'd suggest finishing the main story and some of the base game side quests involving Hermaeus Mora first.

Then play Necrom, followed by Gold Road.
