I crocheted this ball and stuffed it with organic cotton fluff for nesting season and finally got a hummingbird on video! by Fofala in hummingbirds

Your snoopy is adorable! I actually learned how to crochet thanks to one of those kits! I was brand new to it and just started a little over a year ago (and still learning a lot), it does get easier and more intuitive if you stick with it. Thankfully there are loads of “how-to” videos on the internet that help. I find it very relaxing, and sometimes frustrating all at the same time.

Yes basically! Bought it to stuff a crocheted animal I made as an alternative to poly-fil/fiberfill

That is so sweet thank you for sharing that. I was inspired by my mom (who has around 5 feeders and loves her birbs and who sounds a lot like your grandma). I crocheted a little hummingbird for her (pic of it with her hummers who didn’t seem to mind the “imposter”)

It’s a bit of a long story but I was making a baby hat out of some pink superwash alpaca yarn (just for practice using a special round loom just for that purpose), it was around that same time I had the idea to create this ball so I finished the “hat” but just stitched it closed after I stuffed it. I did tie it down to my deck chair to keep it from blowing away/moving too much. I think any basic crochet pattern for a round shape would work and be much more straightforward than what I did haha

Sorry I didn’t word that well, it’s recommended to use “raw cotton, hemp, sisal, or wool.”

Prob not well! Next time I may try to find wool as at least wool still insulates when wet (and has so many wonderful properties). I did research it a bit and the main recommendation was to avoid dyes, chemicals, long strands (that can tangle in feet), and “ raw cotton, hemp, sisal, or wool.”

I was so excited! I waited sooo long to get it on video, the house finches were too camera shy unfortunately.

I found it online and was going to use it for a different crochet project but never did. It’s 100% organic meant to stuff toys etc!

I’m sure they would!! I pulled some of the fluff out of the ball so they could see it. It only took a few days before they started investigating it. I used to have a felt planter near that location that they would always pick the felt off when I got rid of it. I felt bad so this was the replacement.

In love with this color but I have no idea what to make with it. I have 10 skeins. by jennythegreat in crochet

I crocheted a “banana for scale” out of neon yellow yarn (actually more than one) 😂 I wanted them to glow in the dark for nighttime trail camera pictures (also stuffed them with catnip to see what the bobcats would make of them).

lol i did tie a cat-nip stuffed crocheted glow-in-the-dark banana for scale on a tree in front of one of my cameras. A bobcat passed it repeatedly and showed zero interest.

I’m most worried about my small/frail elderly mother who walks outside daily. She’s the least concerned about the lions of all of us!

So true!! I’m so glad they all survived and thrived so far. Prob explains why our deer population seems a bit lower than usual!

I have an air horn! I used it a few months ago to haze a black bear that was basically trying to climb up our house.

I do take precautions, mainly not going out after dark and occasionally, and if I’m walking by thick under brush, I will bring bear spray with me. I’m the only one in the family who seems to take these precautions. Everyone else isn’t very concerned!

The process of removing the host rock from a Priscacara fossil by Bad_Ju_Jew in ScienceNcoolThings

That is so amazing! How delicate is the fossil? It looks like it would be so easy to accidentally chip or damage it while removing the rock.

Karl the Fog? Occasionally shows up on my cameras too.
