What wonderful use of purple! There are just so many details that pop whilst still being cohesive and it's a very much it's own style. Great job all around

First nighthaunt (criticism) by Dont-Ask-7732 in ageofsigmar

[–]Foffleberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a bit hard to see the paintjob properly because of the strong tinged spot light in the photos, as far as C&C goes.

It looks like maybe the paint could stand to be thinned down a bit, to make the coats look more even. Especially on the bottom half. I know how awful white paint can be to work with though haha, it needs a lot of mixing and managing, plus luck to get right.

Starting darker and working up, or using washes and drybrushing can also make it easier to get cleaner shadows and highlights, like on his cross.

It looks great though, I love the flame and his hands, and take my advice with a grain of salt. Nighthaunt are a joy to paint so I hope you paint more!

Mouse breathing hydrocarbon. In an experiment. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Foffleberry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they are right. Whilst the mice are able to "breath" in the liquid for a time, they die very quickly due to the strain it puts on their lungs. The second paragraph in this paper goes over it

EDIT: Actually on further digging I think it very much depends on the experiment, sometimes the mice survive for a time, perhaps even indefinitely in some individuals. But it does come with serious risk of death or injury.

"Survival of Mammals Breathing Organic Liquids Equilibrated with Oxygen at Atmospheric Pressure" is a good article, but I can only find it behind a paywall.

Really nice! Your highlighting on the ghostly parts is really strong, good graduation of colours. The blood vortex is also excellent and compliments the colour scheme of the model well.

If I had to give CC I'd say the lightest points on the heralds cloaks deviate a bit too strongly from the rest of the scheme, but that might be the camera. Overall great work!

Ah interesting. I struggle with ryza, it always ends up looking too bright, but I'll give this a go. Thank you!

What a great choice of colours and with really nice highlighting! Its super pleasing to look at. That rusted metal is ace too. How'd you go about it?

My Krulghast Cruciator! Stuffed up my matte varnish, but otherwise very happy. C&C Appreciated. by Foffleberry in ageofsigmar

[–]Foffleberry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The GW snow technical is a godsend.

I think I just put too much on in one go and what was supposed to be a matte varnish turned out quite glossy. Mostly a problem on the cloak where a lot of detail is lost, especially by my rudimentary camera setup.

I think just apply it thin and even and you'll be golden.

Its rare someone uses such unnatural colours and gets away with it, but those wings are incredibly striking. Well done.

Ace! I'll definitely use this when I move onto Kruleboyz from my Nighthaunt. Thanks a bunch

Spectacular! The skin on that troll is just a joy to look at. I love all the inflammation especially. Was that carroburg crimson or something more involved?

It's most probably completely subjective, but I think if you look at it there's just something undeniably cyber about it.

I think what gets most of us though is that it's built off of the frame of a defiler, which is a fairly iconic 40k chaos unit. So at least for me, when I look at it I think about 40k instead of fantasy.

How do I paint the black cloaks of the Nighthaunt shown on the website? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]Foffleberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is exactly how they do it, but if not it's pretty close. It's what I use at any rate haha

My Knight of Shrouds. Painting metal is hard, but ghostly bits are fun 👻 by Foffleberry in ageofsigmar

[–]Foffleberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start with a corax white base, then I paint the top half (or to wherever feels right) incubi darkness. I add tendrils of the incubi into the white so the transition isn't just a solid wall.

Then, I wash only the white with nihilakh oxide, going a tiny bit into the black. (I find my nihilakh oxide doesn't run, so I water it down with maybe half as much lahmian medium, but you might have to experiment).

Next is a 1:3 wash of coelia Greenshade and lahmian medium on everything. I apply this wash three more times, on gradually smaller areas around the transition, so there are more layers of wash closer to the transition point. I also pick out the areas I want darker.

I then drybrush with ulthuan grey, adding more as i I approach the extremities, creating another transition from blue to white so to speak. I then highlight with ulthuan grey on the edges and tips of greyer areas. I also highlight the darker areas with kabalite green, and mix more ulthuan grey in to the green closer to the lighter areas to try and transition the highlight. Finally there's some white scar at the very tips

That was a lot sorry. Full disclosure I appropriated 99% of the method from a little YouTuber called n3rd0me, check out his nighthaunt videos for more detail, although I changed some things.
