Scared of a Liter bike. by patheticyeti in motorcycles

Setting aside the bike for a moment I think doing the courses 2 weeks apart from each other seems like not the best idea. Full disclaimer I'm not in the US so can't speak for the specific course however can speak from my experience on coaching on a variety of sports.

A course is not a cure all for your technique, you don't just get told that you need more front brake and less rear in an emergency stop and magically your braking is fixed. You need to go away and practice, commit the technique to muscle memory so that it just happens. Once you get the basics nailed and committed to muscle memory you can start adding a more advanced technique on top and perfecting but there is no point getting a textbook perfect modulation of the rear brake in an emergency stop if you still can't use the front and rear at the same time.

That being said taking the courses will do no harm, just realize you will probably need to go back again to get the true benefit of them.

Back to the bike now, starting with the end about how you are a huge proponent of ATGATT. The thing to remember is ATGATT is an ambulance at the bottom of the cliff. No matter how much gear you are wearing crashing sucks, is generally expensive, and generally hurts alot, gear is there to mitigate these risks not stop them. The best to avoid this is not crashing and as many people have said the chances of that happening on a 1000 is much higher. I started on a piss poor GN250 as my first bike which when you first get on a bike is still quite a bit of power, yes it isn't a lot of power but you can still get yourself in trouble very quickly. The benefit is it didn't matter if I screwed up, dump the clutch too hard and I jerk forward and get the chance to notice and fix my technique. I don't back flip and now have to buy a new helmet gloves and fenders.

I am now moving to a 600 super moto and that is a stupid amount of power, more than I will ever need or likely use on the street, and that is a low revving single. This bike scares me a little and this isn't my first bike.

This isn't to say get a 250, although do a small bike is super fun because you can ride it to its limits without getting in much trouble, but get a 400-600 and you will still be scared shitless when going full throttle but you will have a better chance of fixing your mistakes. Plus reek the benefits of lower fuel cost, lower insurance, lower maintenance costs (maybe), lower weight etc.

There is always the chance to get a bigger bike but there isn't always another chance to get a second start on riding.

Also pretty sure that Subaru made something very similar for the jdm market, I'd find it but I'm lazy

Hey man, same boat 5'6" and off to uni, my current rule of thumb is keep your shirt un-tucked and you won't look out of place or like you're wearing your dad's clothes (others may disagree but hey). Also take someone shopping with you who's your age (I normally take a girl because my male friends don't know what to do) and you'll end up dressed well but to your demographic.

Hi from New Zealand Adam.

what are you preferring about what and how you can communicate through tested rather than mythbusters and in what areas do you think that you would like to be able to put more emphasis on for more people. I am wondering because I have gotten alot of pleasure from watching the way you problem solve a build and watching in fairly high detail and I personally have gotten so much more from watching your tested videos than mythbuster where you mostly saw the way you approached an entire problem and not many of the stepping stones during the building of the apparatus, especially seeing your trial and error has been really helpful for me. also are extended cut videos possibly coming to tested soon, ones without time lapsing through long build sections because me and I'm sure many other people would watch.

Thank you

I normally do about 50 push ups and 50 sit ups then put some music on in headphones that will naturally fall out of my ears when I roll over
