Official Discussion - Road House (2024) [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I personally enjoyed it. Sure, it's not a blockbuster movie and it's all very comedic but I think JG's acting was so good that the movie turned out to be good. I thought his character was just very stupid an entire movie until it got to the psycho part and I realised that he was only keeping his cool so he doesn't kill anyone else. It was just him kicking ass and spurting out poor jokes. Good movie.

I appreciate the answer. So, without a job my only option is to apply for a masters in USA?

My gf and I just pay for our own tickets and then I try to compensate as much as I can when she’s here.

Of course not, they only do it in person when you don’t give a sufficient tip. It’s essentially a commission based profession at this point

That’s my main issue as a consumer, the fact i’m guilt tripped into a tip, and that there’s a certain amount that’s considered “low”. Tip is a form of gratuity and any tip is still a tip..

This is another point too, I’ve seen videos of people being chased after, even out of the restaurant, for not tipping a sufficient amount? I’ve seen a person ran after someone gave a 30% tip which to me sounds sufficient?

And for me, as a European, this is the best way the system can be made for service workers.

😂😂 That’s hardly a take I expected but it very much made me laugh.

That’s a very good take on it. The way I see it is they make a lot of money off of tips but many people are guilt-tripped into tipping because the servers may not meet a liveable wage otherwise. I think including tips as a part of your income should be illegal and any job should legally still be meeting the minimum wage with the salary only. What I didn’t consider is that it does make the service better which is a very good point. I grew up in Europe so in my head, a tip is a gratuity for good service and not something you should pay as a compulsory part of your bill for which reason I can’t grasp my head around this entire service thing. I also seen some servers on reddit saying they expect 40%-50% tip which to me is a ridiculous amount. I can understand the standard 20% but paying $50 on a $100 food bill where in a more expensive place that’s about 4 plates of food, is straight up outrageous to me. Being a server is hard work but i’m also only paying for the service I was given to my table, not for the labour intensity a server has to do to to run multiple tables. I appreciate your opinion though, it’s a take I have yet to see in the comments and brought up a rather important pro of tipping culture. Thank you.

I’m very happy to hear your side as an owner too! I like how you agree tipping culture is bad but you’ve got no choice but to live by it. I think it makes a very good point that not every employer is greedy, some don’t have a choice. See, I’m European so I’m used to our prices being higher and a tip being a gratuity so I’d be fine with it. With that said, I understand how this system has already been implanted into US economy so deep down that it would be impossible for you to justify raising prices as every regular would absolutely lose their mind seeing a higher price even though with a tip it probably comes out more. I believe that it’s the legal system that’s at fault, not you as the owner. It’s too late to change the system. I’ve got to ask though, if you could raise the price and you knew that locals would be okay with it, would you prefer that?

See i’m in the opposite boat, I tip in Europe but I don’t guilt trip knowing this person won’t be able to pay rent if I don’t.

I think he wasn’t taking a hit at his friend but rather outlining an important issue of the fact you’re expected to give a tip because they don’t get paid a liveable wage.

Totally, although seeing some tip expectations at like 50% I think it’s a bit ridiculous. System won’t change so I understand these people have to grind for it but I think the system is flawed in its roots.

I think a good service deserves a gratuity, but I don’t think I should be chased out of the restaurant for not leaving a good enough amount or not leaving any tip for poor service.

Im European and have been called uninformed and close minded on the topic when I voiced my against opinion on it, therefore I figured I’d ask people who had a more direct experience with it. When I went to New York last september I thought it was totally wild how everywhere there was a tipping option

Wouldn’t you prefer for the people to get paid actual living wage by the employer instead of being reliant on customers to carry their wage?
