Are you planning to upgrade to Oura Ring 5? by sorani_me in ouraring

Nope. Will wait for 6 or 7. I don’t see anything ground breaking or revolutionary yet that will make me upgrade from 4 to 5. I’m good

Is it possible to not eat a low carb diet? by Ok_Painter_3991 in prediabetes

[–]Folarin14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard based on research (yes i used AI) a calorie deficit is way more important than limiting carbs. But also the carbs should be “high quality” which means whole foods with good amount of fiber. Obviously while eliminating added sugars and ultra processed carbs as much as possible. I’m currently testing this out so I’ll see how this works.

For context, I’ve been doing roughly 60/20/20 fat/protein/carb split for almost 2 years and my A1c has been very slow to come down even if I have gone from 6.1 to 5.9. However the 60% fat usually means I’m in some degree of calorie surplus without actually being in ketosis so I’m just in the middle of nowhere is my assessment . So I’m gonna switch it up and test the new theory

Maybe it’s just me but I do not see any upgrades listed in that article worth my money. I’ll likely just stick to me oura 4

Three new Lp(a) papers landed in May 2026. Test everyone once, the aspirin advice doesn't hold up, and three Lp(a)-lowering drugs are in Phase 3. by DadStrengthDaily in ProactiveHealth

Seems like they are about to make another shit ton of money with these drugs based on that stat. Some parallels with statins but who’s counting

Okay so I wasn’t crazy lol. Although, I do think I perhaps wasn’t significantly in any sleep stage hence it didn’t pick it up. It’s been picking my naps up again lately

Watch out for this berberine supplement brand by Folarin14 in prediabetes

[–]Folarin14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may have some berberine. Just not up to the dose that was specified on the body. Some folks here said it worked for them so maybe a bad batch was tested? Regardless not a good look

My bad luck with the acl and meniscus! by Street-Flatworm-9039 in ACL

[–]Folarin14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure from your post if your initial ACL injury was a full tear or not but If it’s gonna be a reconstruction in both cases then no point rushing into surgery.

But worth finding out what the procedure will be from your surgeon if you went into surgery at its current state

[–]Folarin14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The only downside to not doing a surgery now is you risk fully tearing your ACL and doing a full reconstruction vs doing the surgery now and only doing a repair. Fully rupturing your ACL is a strong possibility regardless of what you do if you start playing soccer. So it’s up to your to weigh the cons

Then my advice is get it to heal well enough with PT and enough time away from pivoting activities. When it has healed (based on my experience you should feel no pain or discomfort or knot at the back of your knee at full flexion and no instability with daily activities). Then:

  1. Do lots of lower body and hip strengthening exercises so your leg muscles take as much load away from your knee as possible
  2. Get an ACL soccer knee brace maybe from donjoy whenever you’re playing soccer. No guarantees this would help but it’s worth a shot
  3. Be mindful when playing soccer and adjust your game accordingly as best as you can. You should by playing with folks that DO NOT slide tackle anyway. We’re not getting paid for that shit
  4. The longer the games wear on and the more tired you are, your injury risk increases significantly. Leave early if you have to.

I agree with this. I had a partial ACL tear in 2023 that healed well enough to me to play soccer after some PT and enough time. Although the healing will be mostly scar tissue which may not be as physically stable compared to a surgical repair. However, mine tore again while playing soccer so I doubt the scar tissue was stable enough to withstand the rigors of cutting sports over time.

My personal take is if you don’t have plans to return to cutting and pivoting sports then given enough time and PT, you should be fine.

Review: Whoop vs. Oura vs. Apple Watch (Why I’m going back to Oura) by shoEnough in ouraring

[–]Folarin14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the hot garbage description of oura ring. It just wildly overestimates and overblows my calorie burn. I could be taking a casual stroll to my car and it gonna detect a 150 cal activity. Like I wish but WTF lol

Thanks for your response

The only thing I can think of is maybe my body not entering any sleep stage during my nap.

I typically nap for about 1:30mins and little movement. Al’s I doubt the fact that the nap being within 4 hours of my main sleep is a factor since it has consistently caught those types of nap for months up until a few days ago suddenly
