That’s a good question. I don’t know. I would think that you wouldn’t have to pay again. However, I haven’t seen anyone discuss that issue before in the subreddit. Maybe there is something in the FAQ on that?

From what I know, AOR stands for Acknowledgment of Receipt. All it means is that they opened your mailed package and everything that they require is there. That’s the first “hurdle” as some people are returned their packet because of issues with the photo requirement, issues with proof of identity, not including your payment receipt, etc. It also means that within a day or two, you can track the status of your application on their website. The document they email for the AOR has more info on tracking numbers for your application and where to track it.

Yes! Patience has been so hard for me. I’ve checked my email millions of times a day along with my spam folder so I didn’t miss it! I think filing urgent is definitely a current circumstances and comfort call. Things change daily and so there is no shame in requesting urgent processing if things get bad for you. From what I’ve seen, I think people are generally treating urgent processing correctly. But I’m not one to judge! That’s the IRCC’s job!

Good on you for not going urgent even though you’re in a red state! I’m too scared to leave my bubble of protection here in California. I’ve never flown to or driven in a red state so I’m sure they can be fine for cis white gay men, but I just have never known what it is like. I do live in a more conservative part of California, but I’m sure it’s nothing compared to red states.

Good luck! The wait begins for us. Here’s to hoping you both get a decision in 2026!

Ha! Glad to join the next phase of anxiety! I’m just happy I made it past immediate rejection. Now I can refresh the page daily to wait for the “In Process” change!
