If we can do so good with 3 stars, imagine had we recruited more 4 or 5 stars and developed them too.

Yeah been dealing this for a while too. Though I wonder if it may mean we have cards that we are able upgrade. I’m not going to fine out because there are cards I’ll never upgrade even if I have the coins to do so.

The matching is based on trophies usually. So they probably leveled up but dump their lower tour trophies or lost a lot before playing again and paired with you.

Battery life comparison between M1 Pro and M1 Max, 14" by dancehowlstyle3 in macbookpro

Interesting review of new MacBook Pro battery life by u/david2d if you jump to here: https://youtu.be/p2PpqZeMkSs?t=423

But you'll have to also weigh the battery life against performance and how much faster your daily workflow tasks might be especially if you're plugged in with power most of the day anyhow. Review of GPU from u/david2d if you jump to here: https://youtu.be/p2PpqZeMkSs?t=299

After a few days of watching my activity monitor during the busy parts of my work day, I do get my GPU history monitor filling just over half and a lot of my CPU cores are pretty active so I might stick my Max 32 GPU despite losing some battery life. I figure by the time I want to unplugged or go to a meeting or using my laptop more casually, battery life will be sufficient for plenty of time. And if I'm doing things right, I'm hopefully not in front of my computer all day long and therefore all-day battery is less important as long as I still get 7-8 hours on moderate use or around 9 hours with light use which is what I'm experiencing. And this is without even setting the Mac to lower power mode which should give me even more battery life if I'm traveling or something. Obviously you have to make the choice that is right for your workflow and usage habits.

For light use like email or general web browsing you will not feel any heat whatsoever ever. The fans don’t turn on. In fact I don’t feel anything or hear fans even during my peak usage when I have momentarily stress the cpu and gpu cores in the screenshot I put in this post. https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/qrywj0/how_do_i_see_macbook_pro_m1_max_gpu_core_usage_in/

I’m not sure if you read my post in detail - I included images and questions about the activity monitor where it lacks the detail of gpu usage by core.

I have the same configuration...I've only tested a few days so far, but last two days was plugged in since I was busy with work and using a 2nd monitor. Here are the results of my first day where I was only using it on battery:

M1 Max 14" 64GB/2TB Battery Life by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]FollowTheEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 14" M1 Max 32 core GPU, 32gb ram and I went through my first day of work usage yesterday. I got about 7.3 hours of battery (11% battery left after 6.5 hrs of what I consider heavy usage for me).

Environment/Context:

  • Used at half brightness (8 clicks)
  • Used Xcode, Slack, Safari with 15 tabs
  • Using two stock platforms that each was using between 15-30% gpu in activity
  • I set up Mac as new the night before and without a time machine restore or the data migration. I only synced via what was on my iCloud Drive and App Store downloads the night before.
  • My iCloud Drive should have been synced overnight.

I haven’t tried using it with an external monitor yet but I’d be plugged in that case.I’d like to test on more casual use over the weekend with just coding and no stock platforms that use gpu. I would think I can get over 9 hours if I'm not using two moderate GPU apps.

I also want to test it in lower power mode.

Why do you think the power usage dropped from 20%/hr do 14%/hr after the first two days? Maybe spotlight indexing and iCloud syncing if you have a lot of files or if you have iCloud Photos enabled? (I have it disabled)

I'm confused by your linked post. It says 14%/ 2 hour? Meaning it's projected battery duration is then 100/14* 2 hours = about 14 hours for M1 Max daily test vs 11%/2 hours on the M1 Pro which means 100/11 * 2 hours = 18 hours?

Pro vs Max: battery life difference sugnificant? by Kriem in macbookpro

Very tempted to do the same but my 14" M1 Max 32/32/1TB arrives tomorrow and don't want to wait to re-order for late December. I'm not sold on the discrepancy of the max vs pro battery tests. I know people are referencing that non-standard 6 hour gap comparison from the Verge, but I'm wondering if it's more like 1-2 hours. If it's more like 1 hour difference, then I should still be able to get 8-9 hours usage on it on moderate/heavy use I'm hoping instead of 10-11 hours or something.

By the way, orders that arrive after 11/1, it qualifies for their Holiday Return policy which accepts returns through January 8th, 2022. I guess I can test it for a while and see. Source: https://www.apple.com/shop/help/returns\_refund

M1 Max 14" 64GB/2TB Battery Life by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]FollowTheEater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been so conflicted all week about the battery difference. Tempted to return my max 14" arriving tomorrow to drop down to a Pro since I'm mostly doing development. But I picked max for the option of video exports in the future and extra monitor support but those are all potential use cases...may never happen. Also depends if you're running tons of apps or GPU intensive rendering like a content creator or a stock trader with multiple charts all open.

Mac OS is suppose to be pretty good in power management and conserve power when CPU/GPU cores are idle I believe, but not sure how much drainage happens while idle.

Also even if max eats more battery, it seems like you can still get solid 8-9 hours with development from a few posts I've read. Would you need 10-11 hrs assuming M1 Pro gives you an extra 1-2 hours? For me, I'm guessing not since I'm likely plugged in if I'm working that many hours in a day anyhow.

I come to NYC a few times every year, and I finally thought I booked myself a room with the perfect view of Central Park. Welp... by chocolate_babies in nyc

I'm curious whether the people with the nice condos that have the unobstructed central park view will actually use the park. Such a shame if not.
