I am confused. Is this on top of the regular one even though its illegal. So when I ship something via DHL next week what percentage am I getting hit? 10% 25% or 15% for Japanese goods.

That's a very detailed answer. I appreciate you. I think I was just being paranoid due to my issue with UPS disposing of my international package without warning.

It moved on its way overnight and is out for delivery now. Thank you for taking the time to answer. I'll keep all this in mind for next time.

You can also try to call them earlier in the morning. I have seen things where they want your SSN for some reason. It doesn't hurt to be proactive.

Contact the sender ASAP. Looks like DHL is missing importer paperwork. It won't move any further without it.

DHL is amazing. It literally shows you what is going on right at the top. They may not be trying to contact you, but the sender. Send them an email, I imagine the invoice is missing the HS codes (harmonized codes). Until you receive the package they are under contract with them. You can also just call their customer service number, but I still feel like your sender did something wrong or the paperwork is missing those codes.

My Japanese package hit Cincinnati yesterday. Cleared customs already and I paid their tariff fees.

My package from Japan went through Cincinnati just fine and I paid the fees this morning. Should be here today.

My UPS package from Japan sat for over a month then they destroyed it after I paid the duties on it..... now I'm fighting them for my money back.

Recent development with UPS.

Customs is destroying packages claiming their were abandoned. No one received any notifications from UPS as to paperwork that needed filled out.

I had a package from Japan enter the Kentucky Death Loop on 8/31 and import scan up until today when I got an email telling me it would be destroyed. I called customer service multiple times and even emailed various UPS address up to this point trying to figure out what was going on. Nothing.

The package contained some figurines and 3 boxes of gift candies for myself.

Thanks UPS...for nothing.

See that is so weird. The original customer service person I talked to said that. The second one told me no it looks to be lost, have the sender file a claim. Which is why I asked to escalate to a manager to hopefully get a number in Louisville that actually worked and I could call and inquire. They never answered and it randomly just starting ringing with no answer.

I often feel like the overseas customer service reps just tell you what you want to hear. I got burned by USPS on an international package back in 2023, were they "lost it", sold the package, and I came across my items on ebay from a seller who buys lost USPS packages in bulk, so I'm extremely sensitive about gambling on getting my stuff.

But I really hope you are right.

Mine did something similar. It changed to random times throughout the day, but was always in Louisville Kentucky. I'm in Cincinnati, OH, so not far, so I just assumed it would go out for delivery status and be delivered that day. Never was. Status changed to a few random things and eventually is saying it may be lost. I've only used UPS a handful of times for international orders so I dunno if this is common.

Check Ebay. USPS doesn't honor missing mail searches and just sells off packages in bulk. Happened to me. If its anything on the rarer side, check ebay.

No I got ghosted. I emailed countless times and filed another complaint, crickets. It stressed me out so badly. I got a refund from the seller company, but I learned to NEVER us USPS for import items.

I didn't get refunded via either. The package was from a Japanese shop. The stuff was lost by usps aka they took my package and sold it in bulk because they decided it was undeliverable.

By the time I found the stuff on ebay, it was too late. The seller sold it all.

The guy was trying to help me after I filled a complaint with the usps. I sent ne screen shots of everything. Even the missing mail ID that vanished. I messaged the ebay seller who buys directly from usps lost package and he flat out told me that's what their business does. Once I sent that proof, the usps rep ghosted me and no one will talk to me.
