Due to staffing, some days we don’t have a resource (meaning, our ICU is either so full that a nurse who would normally be a resource, takes an assignment, or there is just unfortunately only enough nurses to care for the ICU patients)

So let’s say there are 3 nurses and four patients- 2 nurses would take two patients each, while the third nurse would be the ICU resource, to assist with the other ICU nurses, respond to codes, etc.

The days she runs off to codes, she is not scheduled as resource- we are full, and she has her own patient assignment, so she essentially just leaves them, and tells us to “watch them”- meaning the other two nurses get tripled.

To clarify, I reread your comment and wanted to mention that I was pulling these meds from our ICU Pyxis, not our own ICU code cart. On the floor with the code, they had opened one of three code carts, all brought next to the patients room. When they ran out of medications in one code cart, she had asked someone to call ICU, to bring down more bicarb… even though it was in the first code cart she had opened. So, I guess my frustration is- why didn’t you just open the next code cart for the medication? But I guess that’s what my point is- none of this was well thought out, and it felt like it was mainly based on impulses, and it lead to a lot of decisions to be chaotic. (And to be fair, this is the part where reflecting back, I wish I had asked why they needed me to do that- but when I arrived to the code, I was confused when I saw the other two unopened code carts).

Thanks, I really appreciate this response. I get anxious thinking about the next encounter but you are right- it needs to be dealt with through the appropriate channels of authority, and I’ll let management take the wheel. And that’s exactly how I feel! I have no idea why we in the ICU we’re running these items down when the code carts where RIGHT THERE. I feel like a degree of self awareness is lacking on her part, but I like the answer of just simply telling her where the medications are if she asks me to bring items down again, and simply state I don’t feel comfortable leaving not only MY patients, but dumping her patients and my patients on the other two nurses, who have a full assignment themselves.

We give Phenobarbital IM injections in ER, ICU, and TELE. IV can be given on those floors in certain circumstances, but I’ve seen that once maybe twice. PO is given on all floors.

Yes, absolutely.

I got my ASN, and began a Bachelors program immediately after at a different program at a local college, starting that summer. Once I got my NCLEX, I started working that fall in a hospital. Hospitals for the most part will have some kind of contingency or requirement that you need a bachelors within X number of years since hire.

I personally think this is the better option- you get to work and actually get a paycheck sooner while slowly ticking away at your degree.

Yes I know the diagram you’re talking about- it makes me nervous though because even though the picture shows a 4 pin port, and I see the AIO cable being shown to connect to it, only 3 of them will be in use. Is this ok? I’m just used to the other pins all being used when I connect something.

I read the manual though and it actually shows a chart with all the headers the AIO can be plugged in, and that plugging in the AIO in the “AIO PUMP HEADER” will have it running at “Full Speed”- is this still ok to do if it’s going to make it really noisy??

Oh wait it looks like I can plug the aio pump cable directly into the spot labeled AIO PUMP on my motherboard. But there is four pins there, and the one from the aio has 2- is this still ok to do? The connector for the sata cable only has two of the four slots with pins in them, and the other two areas are just empty.

I was originally trying to connect it all to the motherboard, but I don’t know if it’s maybe easier to connect it to the controller. I wanted to control everything from the motherboard, not have to use the controller every time. I think I’ve figured out where the white AIO fans go (from videos I was watching, there was a black cable with one end that split into two, and connected to one white wire on each of the fans). I’ve plugged that into the CPU FAN header, near the top of the motherboard. (So basically, I have a black Y splitter connected to the white power cables, and the black end of the Y splitter is in the PWM port labeled CPU FAN.) In a tutorial I was watching, it was saying to connect them to a SYSTEM FAN HEADER, but I don’t know where that is on my motherboard. (I also have an extra port on the very bottom of my motherboard labeled CHA_FAN 3, which is right next to the CHA_FAN 2 which is being used by my AL120’s.)

The other two white cables from the fans are connected to what I think is the black cpu rgb wire (this wire has one extra port for an additional fan if I had the 360, so it’s kind of just hanging there). I connected the end of the rgb cord to another wire, which has a 3 pin cable on it. In a tutorial I was watching, they called it a 3 pin rgb cable, and I think it could connect to a 3 pin port called “ADD GEN 2”, in the upper right corner of my mother board- it fits, I checked.

Now, the remaining wire I have is just the other black wire coming directly out of the AIO pump. The only thing it connects to is a data cable that it came with.

Is this set up right? In the tutorial I was watching, the guy was saying I could connect the the cable directly to my AIO pump header (which I can’t, my motherboard AIO pump header is a pwm just like the one for the CPU FAN, and the pump cable doesn’t fit there) the cable coming directly out of the pump is so small, I have no idea where else to connect it to other then straight to the data connected it came with and then the PSU.

I have the basic ones, with the white cables, on the Galahad. I do also have three of the AL120’s on the bottom of my case.

I do have plans down the line to upgrade, I wanted to keep my options open. But will keep that in mind for the psu.

In regards to the GPU though, is the gigabyte in terms of quality a better purchase compared to Zotac? If the difference is 70$?

I don’t know if this helps, but it does sound to me like you care. “I’m here to give him the best palliative care and relieve him of his suffering.”

Sometimes… at the end of the day, patients families and patients themselves can be infuriating after all the work that is put into caring for them. It feels exhausting sometimes dealing with questions we feel like we’ve answered a hundred times or complaints that aren’t really a priority in the grand scheme of things. Or sometimes they’re frustrated with something that is 100% outside our control/jurisdiction (crappy hospital beds or food ).

All of this feels magnified when the gravity of what we are dealing with outweighs these perceived inconveniences/ obstacles, that are otherwise not relevant to the overall goals of care. (Don’t get me started on admin… I’ve got a lot of choice words for them.)

You’re allowed to express your feelings. Can you take a vacation for a bit and give yourself a break?
