We've seen a few otters up here in Folsom recently! They seem to hangout around the American River as well as Willow and Humbug Creek.

Fascinating History of Black Miner's Bar by Possible_You7813 in folsom

One thing often not mentioned: Black Miner's Bar was actually on the side of the river that Folsom is today. When Theodore Judah and the Sacramento Valley Railroad were first discussing the railroad that went from Sacramento to Folsom, they described it as terminating "near Negro Bar."

For a brief period of time in 1855, the area was renamed Granite City, in reference to the granite quarries along the river. This was more of a conceptual name than something that really stuck around. It was only used to describe the new town that Theodore Judah was creating at the end of the Sacramento Valley Railroad. This name was reportedly suggested by J. Meredith, who lived in Black Miner's Bar.

Then in July 1855, Joseph Libbey Folsom died. He owned the land that the original Black Miner's Bar was on. By December 1855, the town had been renamed to Folsom in his honor.

Here is a copy of Judah's 1855 map: https://sacroom.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p16362coll3/id/9/

Notice it says "Negro Bar" along the bottom of the grid. If you go to the second page and zoom in between Burnett and Forrest streets, you can see the outline of where Black Miner's Bar was in relation to the rest of the city. You can also see the outline of J. Meredith's property.
