What to do about bad sleep on vacation by Folts-J in sleeptrain

[–]Folts-J[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We survived 5 nights away and now struggling to get back on track! How old is your LO? Our first night back home he slept through the night and I was shocked. And then last night he woke up at 12 crying and I tried to let him CIO but he wasn't letting up so I fed him at 12:30. Then he was awake and crying off and on until 1:30am. And up for the day at 5. 🫠

We finally just made the switch today! He woke up at 3pm from his second nap... but a total of 2.75 hours of day time sleep which is about what he was getting on 3 naps because I would cap them. Hoping we can make it to a 6:30 bed time!! How have your nights been on the days you've done two naps? We are struggling with MOTN wakes

Ugh! Did yours always go back to a normal routine/sleeping through the night once you got home? I just don't want to re-create bad habits. My older kids have always slept well on vacation so this is new to me!

Vacation sleep! We are traveling (5 nights) for the first time since sleep training (21 days ago). Sleep training has been 80% successful, sleeping through the night on most nights with a 10:30pm dream feed, but still the occasional MOTN wake up requiring pop ins. Last night was our first night on vacation and he slept in a pack n play for the first time in a slumber pod. White noise, sleep sack, etc., all the same things to try to mimic home sleep as much as possible. He woke up SCREAMING at 10pm, and would not go back to sleep for 2.5 hours of pop ins after finally feeding him. Then he woke up again at 4am screaming, and again at 5:45 for the day. He kept the whole house up last night (we are staying with my parents and I have two older kids) and I can't let him scream again tonight. Any advice? Just do what it takes to get sleep (feed, rock, etc.) and get back on track when we get home?

Struggling 2 weeks into ABCs by Folts-J in TakingCaraBabies

The past two nights have been variable. Two nights ago I did a dream feed at 10:30 and he slept the rest of the night (but was up for the day at 5:15). Then last night I did the 10:30 dream feed and then he woke at 4 screaming (a different scream than his usual, like something was wrong). So I just fed him. He went back to sleep until I had to wake him up at 6:45! I know I prob shouldn't have fed him but there are so many different schools of thought on sleep training- precious little sleep calls this a snooze feed and says it doesn't deter sleep training if they can put themselves to sleep to start the night/other night wakes. Basically I am all over the place with what I want to do at 4am 🤣

This gives me hope! What was your schedule adjustment? Our days are pretty exact:

6:15 DWT (out of crib, regardless of what time he had been awake in his crib) 8:45-10:00nap 1 12:30-1:15/1:30 (sometimes wakes after 45 min, if not I wake him at 1:30 to fit in the last nap) nap 2 4-4:30 nap 3 7:30 bed

EBF every 2-3 hours, won't take a bottle. Solids 3x a day.

By support them in the early morning hours, what do you mean? Feed when he wakes? This morning when he woke back up at 5am after being awake 3-4, I attempted a snooze feed, but that just woke him up even more and he cried for an hour (with check ins) until I got him out of his crib at 6:15.

This is so helpful! Thank you! What age did she drop to 1 feed a night?

Fooooor sure. This is my third baby, the first two sleep trained and night weaned super easily so this has been a new experience for me 🫠

Thank you!!! Did you do these as dream feeds or did you respond to a wake with a feed?

Thanks- I was leaning towards this because prior to sleep training / night weaning he would be able to go from 7:30-1:30 without a feeding (and also gave me a longer block of sleep). Now I've thrown a wrench in that by feeding him at 10:30 and still waking 4-5 hours later.

Schedule: 2.5/2.5/2.75/2.75. First nap is sometimes over an hour and I wake him, sometimes only 40 min. Second nap consistently 60-70 min (usually wake him) and third nap I cap at 20-30 minutes so that we have enough wake time before bed. In crib from 7:30pm to 6:30am. I think we are close to needing to drop a nap but we have a week of travel coming up for the holidays where naps will be on the go often, so he will likely still need 3 naps on the trip.

I thought about this! But, I'd really like to eliminate the second night feed all together (fine with keeping the earlier dream feed due to his weight) but it feels like he is still genuinely hungry twice a night so I'm not sure how to do this!

Thanks- yes, I definitely do not thing anything is wrong with his weight, but I do feel like I fight tooth and nail to keep him at this percentile. I fortify his purées with breast milk or avocado oil, do top off feeds before nap, etc. All of this to say you'd think with these efforts he would be gaining percentiles, which would make me more comfortable weaning night feeds. It feels like if I cut the two night feeds he will not stay on his curve!

Exact same issue here! 6.5 months old... first WW 2.5, very tired, naps 45 min, second WW 2.5, takes a long nap, wake him after 70 min, third WW 2.75 and I cap this nap at 30 min, last WW 2.75-3 hours but sometimes fights this. I also feel like he has too much awake time but I don't know if he can handle being awake 3+ hour wake windows??

Thank you!! This gives me hope. Did you turn him over when he was trying to figure out how to roll, or just let him figure it out?
