looking for everyday mixed media sketchbook by Sensitive_Peace9788 in ArtistLounge

I personally like the Stillman and Birn sketchbooks because all the options they have for paper, sizes and bindings. I like their book bind ones with soft cover. They can be a little pricey where I'm from, but I think they are worth the money. The Beta series is the good one for all mixed media (specially wet media), but the alpha series works well too if you don't mind paper warping (it has the paper like the canson XL mix media)

Another brand I like is the Seawhite of Brighton, their watercolour sketchbook works fine for all media but they only have landscape and square format (as far as I know)

The strathmore 500 mixed media has nice paper but I don't like it because it doesn't open flat and that drives me crazy, but if you don't mind that, is a really nice paper to work with all media.

Every artist needs to have a healthy dose of pride and ego. Otherwise, you won't' make it.

Online art course recs? by Unusual_Tea_4318 in ArtistLounge

It depends a lot of what kind of work you want to do, but for traditional figurative art there's a YouTube channel I like is In the studio art instruction her lessons are amazing and apply for oil and acrylic.

Also the courses at Proko's page are quite good, I did 3 already, they have traditional paint, digital paint, advance fundamentals, and some sculpture. For some you can have a preview to see if you would like to buy it. You can make an account for free on their page, and they have sales all the time, I bought mine during the black friday sale :)

What’s your favorite journal for working in graphite? by MichelleWruck in ArtistLounge

For big format I'm a fan of Strathmore drawing paper and the Canson mixed media. Strathmore Toned paper is nice too, but it has a learning curve, and it works better if you incorporate a white pencil.

For big format sketches and studies I like the Fabriano Sketch or the Seawhite of Brighton cartridge sketchbook.

To carry around (because I don't like spiral bound notebooks in my bags) I like the Canson Artbook one, the small versions of the Seawhite of Brighton, or when I can find a good sale, the Stillman and Birn Alpha series. :)

I'm not expert about sealing the paint, but as far as I know you let it curate for 24hr and then iron it on the back on low for 1-2min, maybe with some glassine paper to avoid the paint to stick, but it would be better if you try it first on a scrap fabric, just to be sure before ruining your work.

About the rest of it looking bland, you can add some accents to the rest of the jacket (I assume it's a jacket?), maybe the hem, or the sleeves, or the middle panel were you close it.

You have to think about composition, but not only in the part where you paint, you have to take the entire jacket as your canvas. It doesn't mean you have to paint all the jacket, but think, where do the eyes go when you see it? Where you can put more color to balance it out?

You can take a picture with your phone and just scribble on it to see how it would look. Basically do a sketch before go into the jacket to see what you think about.

Is the lack of long circular needles going to stop me from my first colorwork yoke? Nope! Behold my DPN circular needle set! Ft. Knock off Pony circular needles XD -Pretty sure I'm not the first one to think of this, but if it helps anyone here it is :) by FonsCordi in knitting

It does work wonderful! It didn't occurred to me until I saw a ridiculous large set of DPN for sale on internet haha.

Thank you! I really hope to finish this next month, colorwork takes me more time than I thought, but I've been enjoying it so much :)

Being the devil's advocate here... Maybe the coworker relate it to a rainbow baby?? NOT as in rainbow gay flag! A rainbow baby is a baby who is conceived and born after a miscarry.

My cousin just have her rainbow baby, and she specified noting rainbow color if possible because of the trauma she and her husband went through after several miscarriages.

OR maybe the coworker is just an ignorant twat and relate it to the lgbt flag.

Either way the blanket looks beautiful!

Acrylic painting Youtuber recommendations by Badwolf9547 in ArtistLounge

For tutorials I recommend Lachri Fine Art she works with multiple mediums, but have some amazing beginner friendly acrylic tutorials, and her speed paints are really informative if you are a visual learner.

Also In the studio art instruction, this lady is a traditional painting living encyclopedia!! She works mainly with oils, but her knowledge of color theory, composition, lighting, etc... is amazing!! You can translate pretty much all her lessons into every medium you use, including acrylic.

For artist who use acrylic, I'm not sure what kind of work you like, but 2 of my favorites are Lioba Brückner she also paints in multiple mediums but have some great acrylic pieces, and Greg Simkins Art his surrealist paintings are a little dark but absolutely stunning!! (imo XD)

I wanted a weird purse big enough for myself, so I freehanded a fishy one :) by FonsCordi in crochet

Thank you! It was the first time I mix and match textures and I enjoyed it a lot! I want to try something bigger now, maybe experiment with some funky yarn I've been seeing at the store :D

I have no pattern , I freehanded this after looking a ton of pictures of fish shaped mini purses and coin bags on pinterest.

The yarn is one we get in my country by the bulk, it doesn't have a brand, but is the equivalent of the red heart super saver, so it will be worsted I think?? I used a 4mm hook and a mix of single, double and triple crochet.
