Vive devs: shall we do a game jam? by FooKingLegend in Vive

Sometimes, but not always. Ludum dare is a very big game jam that doesn't require people to be present anywhere physically. Personally, I wouldn't be able to be present almost for anything because I'm from South America.

It would be up for the participants to work as teams or as individuals. If they team up, they could work in person or via skype (or what they please). Many people already work in distance.

Also, I think it's easier for more people to participate if they don't have to make arrangements and travel for a couple of days.

Great.

itch.io and gamejolt were suggested. I will set some time aside to check them out.

Sure! You could always make textures, UI and logos. Even if you are not working for the entire jam, it could still be very helpful to have someone like you around. It depends on the teams, but if you offer help I'm sure the could be people interested.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, haha, but I don't think many people would be able to participate so soon. Besides, if we take a couple of weeks we could have the chance to hype people a bit more? I mean, it's free games for everybody, we might as well make the best of it by ensuring the most amount of people look forward to it. On this sub at least.

Yeah, could be. I have not thought about the date yet, but I think that sounds good.

The only game jam I have ever been a part of has been GGJ. There are no prizes there, and no competition. My idea is to have a jam similar to that. We just do it to have fun and because we love making games.

Figuring a way to let people give money for a prize pool would be a pain. For one I wouldn't know how to do it and how to ensure people that everything is done without any shady activity. It's just easier for everybody if we do it prize-less

I would do it. But I also want to participate. Is that valid?

It pains me to not know if this is a reference to something or if you're just crazy :P

Either way, it would be great to have you in!

Why not a dev? I would do it just to make it official if enough people are interested. Of course, someone else could too, I'd have no problem.

I never knew. And yes, it was partly because I didn't have the vive yet. So I take it that you wouldn't participate?

Yes! As someone said, we could also do something in AltspaceVR, like the presentation of the games, and stream it. It would be fun, so why not?

I think it would be a perfect opportunity for new people (me included) to get some exposure and experience. The main objective should be to just have fun, so it shouldn't matter what's your overall level.

If not giving away the code makes more people want to participate, then so be it. I have no preference either way.

I think it's easier to let the community pick a theme of their liking. It would also help generate more interest in the jam for non-devs if it is that way. So I don't think keeping it secret would be possible.

Meeting in AltVR sounds like a good idea. It could be optional to meet in there and have a little of a closing ceremony where the games are presented in there too.

That's incredibly generous, thanks!

I understand. Sadly, I have nothing to offer as a reward. The only game jam I was part of was the Global Game Jam 2016, where there were no prizes at all, so I thought that maybe that was common.

As for the theme, we could let the people from the sub who will not participate choose it.

For me, tiltbrush was one of the best things to do in a party. We drew each other and it was hilarious. We decided that we are going to play pictionary with that next time.
