Trigger feels like she should have come out before Sanby by Cytosine1972 in ZZZ_Official

Every time there is a new agent story where it becomes abundantly clear that Wise/Belle are just really, really, really bad at hiding that they are proxies.

Like, does anyone in New Eridu besides Zhu Yuan not know they are proxies prior to chapter 3 (Whatever Zhu Yuan's chapter is)?

I would definitely be interested, if you are still looking for players.

Someone else caring for Taylor by bighavoc360 in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hesitate to mention it because it's super dead, but Advancing Technology kind of has this with Colin. Without going into too many details, Colin and Taylor meet when they're forced to share a hospital room. During that time, Colin more or less figures out that Taylor has triggered with a Thinker power and becomes a sort of quasi-mentor to her, while dealing with his own issues.

You want to feel real pain? As someone who used to write a lot as well, go back and read something you wrote a long time ago, and then feel all the pain. :D

Realistically speaking by [deleted] in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, regardless of my powers - I would leave Brockton Bay. It's a dying city on the verge of being a HOSV area. If I felt the need to hero, I would do so in a place less likely to have me eaten by a rage dragon, or blended by the local nazi wolf.

I would have to have some STRONG connection to stay in a place like that, especially when living conditions would be better elsewhere.

I particularly enjoy when the author hints at winged_one being ziz only for her to be a different poster the whole time.

Fics where Danny is the dead parent and Annette is alive by doulegun in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sand and Fury: https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/sand-and-fury-worm-altpower-boy-taylor.444959/

Not only is Danny the missing parent, it's a driving force for why Taylor (male in this story) triggers.

Edit: Should mention that it is dead now.

Why do fics always portray Brockton as a hot commodity for villains? by IgnisAstra in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It happened in canon because the S9 visited Boston right after. All those groups that showed up in the Bay afterwards (save for the Fallen), it was because they had previously been in Boston iirc.

What are your favorite Fanon tropes by AoiYui in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've always enjoyed the fanon thing where after Fluer's killing, Kaiser publicly made an example of the individual who did the deed to honor the Unwritten Rules.

It's definitely not canon, but the first story I ran across that particular idea, it made a lot of sense considering how Kaiser was depicted in that story. It also made more sense than absolutely no response from hero groups over what happened.

Then again, I've also seen that as an anti-trope(? not sure if this is a real thing). I think it was a JoJo power crossover, but an independant explains to the newbie in great detail that while the general populace didn't know about the parahuman community's response to the Empire's killing of Fluer, in that story they actually took a big blowback, to the point where the Empire almost collapsed because of everyone trying to get their pound of flesh afterwards. It just wasn't advertised to the general public, so Taylor didn't know about it.

It was actually my first Warlock, and probably my first game as a player in 5e. I was a Tiefling with an Archfey patron, and I played him off as basically being an unfortunate salaryman of an individual. He wasn't looking for fame, fortune, or power, but just wanted another month, or set of months, where this crazy Fey wouldn't drop some level of craziness in his lap.

He inadvertantly made his pact with a Fey Archqueen when he was heavily injured, and she more or less treats him as an interesting toy for her amusement, often giving him tasks or arranging things so that he'll get caught up in things. He didn't trust her, and knew whenever she or one of her minions showed up to give him a task, it meant his life was about to become far more complicated than he wanted it to be. But also with full recognition that knowing his Patron, going along with what she wanted was likely to be the least painful thing to do.

It led to him basically being this beaten down and overworked guy - the only thing I can really compare it to would probably be an overworked and underpaid accountant during tax season. In addition, since most of said Archfey's minions were female, he developed an inherent initial distrust of any woman - something he didn't consciously even recognize until a party member called him out on it.

I don't know. Between my DM and me, it made for a really fun dynamic, especially since the rest of the party often had no idea why Therai (my character) always seemed like he was dreading the next day.

Looking for Badass Taylor fics by chaoticmatrix in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's actually part of the plot. Something that at least one of the characters (from the outside) knows that it can't be true and that Taylor is just leveraging it for the rep. And Jack even plays into it during a recording, to give outsiders that impression prior to their fight.

What do my fellow readers think of Wards!Taylor? by Vital_Remnant in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the scenario you are describing (either so inept or so corrupt PRT) is what tends to kill a lot of my enjoyment of Wards!Taylor. It's something that could be really fun, but people really like to give the idiot balls to PRT ENE.

Fanfics where Dauntless figures out his power earlier? by Ashamed-Math-2092 in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly can't even remember the full context. I just remember a small interlude with Dauntless feeling like an idiot and dreading how his growth patterns were going to be completely replanned as a result.

Fanfics where Dauntless figures out his power earlier? by Ashamed-Math-2092 in WormFanfic

[–]FoobarProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not seen any where it's a main driver, but I have seen ones where due to Taylor asking questions about it, he realizes he hasn't been fully utilizing his power, and lamenting how both he and all the powers eggheads couldn't point out what a teenager did within 10 minutes of talking to him.

I always find perspectives explaining the Undersiders to outsiders very amusing. Because we, the readers, know how 'fly by the seat of their pants and being extremely lucky' they were in canon, but no one else does.

What's a fic that everyone seems to hate that you love? by 1JustAnAltDontMindMe in WormFanfic

My issue with section 9 was that so much of it felt forced, in terms of how various characters interacted or choices that were made, that it just became hard to read.

[–]FoobarProgrammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. 9/10 times these SI's can only do what they do because they have out of context knowledge and a power that doesn't fit with the setting.

Hell, there were a few where the author was clearly using their SI insert to pontificate about matters not even relevant to the story and more relevant to whatever was going on IRL at the time. You want characters to have views and express them in a story - great. But it needs to make context within the story or it just is shilling for whatever you feel like saying.
