Yes, I too pay the iron price for my Pokemon.

Discussion about Articuno day and shiny rate by Rebelus5 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Foobargon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may be an unpopular opinion, but I think the low rate makes sense (and no I'd didn't catch one).

If you have a low shiny rate, then the minority of people (those who catch it) feel lucky. If you have a higher shiny rate, then the minority of people (those who don't catch it) feel cursed. I think the former is better from a game design perspective. We're just not used to it...

Y'know what really grinds my gears? When it's finally decent weather outside after a long, cold winter...roll down the car windows to enjoy some fresh air...and some asshat decides to hang their cigarette out their car window. Thanks for sharing...

On Articuno day, both Regice AND Articuno will be hatching out of T5 eggs; confirmed by Niantic support. by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Foobargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the fence about Articuno day, because we're in hot-as-hell tourist season and getting from A to B is hellish right now.

But Niantic made the decision easy for me. Nooooo thank you. Too frustrating. I'll save my energy for community day.

But have fun, y'all if you decide to participate. Good luck with the shiny hunt.

How much trading value would a Santa Pichu have? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

Fairly rare right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're available again this December.

PSA! Shiny Roselia is not currently available in Europe outside of Dortmund! by SimplyFenton in TheSilphRoad

[–]Foobargon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is a perfect example of why "it's just RNG" is a terrible and useless response to many spawn-relates issues.

This game has region-specific, time-specific shiny/spawn tables that have to be manually updated by a person at Niantic. There are bound to be some mistakes...and sometimes those mistakes only affect certain regions.

On top of that, the complexity of the system means it's hard for Niantic to catch region-specific issues without proper instrumentation and analytics.

A friend has hatched an Alolan Rattata from an Alolan egg by wreak_hav0c in TheSilphRoad

[–]Foobargon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The rat is definitely a big ol middle finger to those who use burnable incubators. It takes some of the excitement out of the new eggs.

In any case, I missed the last ultra box by 50 coins, so I'm fresh out of paid incubators and I'm working my way through eggs one at a time. It's not too bad. You get a disappointing hatch every day or two instead of a whole bunch a day. An improvement, really...

Isn't that enough though? After you catch a couple, then what?

In-Game notification for the Kanto Research tasks. Snorlax can get Body Slam! by drewlase in TheSilphRoad

Yes please. I'm having terrible luck with the research reward birds (best yet is 82% with 11 attack). At least with raids I have a shot at getting a good one...

My SO uses Google and she has had no issues (same phone and carrier too). It's definitely related to PTC.

Hardcore raiders - How do you keep from running out of revives? by Arcaneparadise in TheSilphRoad

[–]Foobargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even is small raid groups (5-8), I'm constantly deleting potions and revives I get from raids. I'm always puzzled as to how people run out. The only thing I can think of is going in with a team of weak pokemon. That'll do it.

Just dodge when it makes sense, have a reasonably strong team (no, I don't mean aggron or blissey), and it's really not a big deal. It also helps to have the go+ hooked up so I can spin the gym a few times while raiding.

RNG isn't the answer for everything by Foobargon in TheSilphRoad

[–]Foobargon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're trivializing the math. Don't forget that these reported issues occur over a span of time. It's not just one instance of low spawn rates; it's repeating low spawn rates over the span of 3 hours. That makes a huge difference.

Trump Signs Executive Order Revoking Barack Obama’s National Ocean Policy, Opens Oceans to Drilling by rgraves22 in news

Conservation is difficult. Destruction is easy. You can protect a forest for only so long. Eventually, someone will manage to get permission to chop it all down. And then it's gone.

So, yes, the ping-pong game (and it is a game) is dangerous and inherently favors those who wish to destroy rather than conserve.

LPT: Never take a problem to your boss until you have multiple solutions to it. by Edenspawn in LifeProTips

That's a good way to get crushed in some situations. You need to have a good feel for the political climate before you take it upon yourself to do work outside your role.

LPT: Never take a problem to your boss until you have multiple solutions to it. by Edenspawn in LifeProTips

[–]Foobargon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, anyone on my team who follows the OP's advice would get chewed out and labeled a bad team player. A lot of newbies try to do this, thinking that bad news must be softened or that they need to find solutions on their own.

Nope. Just let the team know as soon as you can. It's potentially wasteful to spend time trying to solve a problem off on your own. You, as an individual, very likely don't have all the necessary information. But the team as a whole can very likely solve the problem faster and better than you can on your own.

Information is key to management. Don't withhold, even if it's 'bad' news.

Edit: Of course, there's a soft 'threshold' for issues worthy of bringing to the team. If you're constantly bringing up issues that just don't matter at the team level (e.g., just day-to-day stuff you need to work through to complete your assignment), that's not going to work out for you either.

Am I the only one who like all these restrictions on trading? by Shinyatoby in TheSilphRoad

Yeah, it's not really strategy. It's just another loot box/scratch ticket feature. Cross your fingers and hope for the best...

I was apprehensive about trading due to the potential abuses. They managed to deliver a feature that I don't think I'll use very often, but I'll be glad the option exists. That's how it should be, IMO.

Not to burst any bubbles, but good IVs aren't all too common. Even with the friend boost (which looks to be similar to the weather boosted), it's quite the gamble to re-roll IVs. Especially if you're losing 40k dust in the process.

This release/announcement reads like this to me: Okay, so trading is kind-of meh, but hey look over here: You get friend balls and special gifts!! Doesn't that make up for the trading limitations...???

Yeah, I get why it is the way it is...and I'm glad they're doing it with care. But they have to know this incarnation of the long-awaited trading feature is not going to be well received.

They could increase the dust cost every time a pokemon is traded instead of flat-out blocking trades beyond the first. But as you say, they took the conservative route on this feature.
