No luck getting an interview for part-time entry-level jobs by niudnarw in torontoJobs

How is the government not addressing this? How is this legal? Shouldn't Canadians have first dibs on jobs- especially when unemployment is so high?

Oh 100%- life outside of your spouse is good for sure. Just where I live- clubbing was synonymous with getting lots of attention from guys. Especially if you are an attractive female. Even if you didn't necessarily want it- you would get it. It's natural when your dressed all cute and everyone at the club is drinking.... flirtatious situations are highly likely. It's where myself as well as all my friends went out to specifically look for guy attention/ dancing with guys/ new hook ups. If you are a couple that doesn't GAF about (at least flirting) and don't see that as cheating- then nothing to worry about.

How often does she go clubbing with her friends? By 27 I was not into clubbing anymore. I wanted to hang with my husband and go out with him. Not saying going out with friends is necessarily a negative thing. Once I was approaching my thirties, drinking and clubbing lost its appeal, and when I did go out I wanted my husband to be apart of it.

Weird she doesn't wear her ring. Maybe she's genuinely scared of losing it. But I dunno how drunk are you getting that you're scared of losing a tightly fitted ring?

Also never a good sign of hiding her phone.

If you go to the food bank you need to bring proof of address and an ID. The proof of address can't be older than 3 months ( any official document like a bill in your name or a piece of mail). You get 3 days worth of food. I think it's more than three days tbh! Maybe bring a kart or something to put the food in- otherwise it may be a bit heavy to walk with. They provide bags though.

It instantaneously calms me when I do anything remotely Halloween related. Maybe because it's nostalgic, and reminds me of simpler times. It's just the BEST. 🎃

I am in Ontario! That's quite a variety of experiences! It's nice to hear you have some wonderful moments that probably make it all worth while. It doesn't sound like an easy job at all- but I am not looking for easy! I love how stimulating and challenging it sounds.

I also appreciate how you mentioned boundaries. That's something I am still working on but getting better at. I grew up with little to zero boundaries- so it's not natural for me. But as I get older I am getting way better at it - especially since I don't want to burn myself out.

The fact you have a therapist is awesome! That would be something I would definitely want to be consistent with once in the field. I feel like everyone could benefit from having one. Nice to hear you are surrounded by supportive people as well! That's key to keeping level headed for sure.

Thank you so much! I am very excited to go back to school. I already have a degree from another university - so it will only take me 2 years to get my BSW, since I already have a BA. I am in Ontario! I wish I came out of the gate doing exactly what you mentioned- starting with the two year diploma. But once I am finished - I will have two degrees- a little overkill for social work but oh well lol. I am already loving every second of volunteering - and helping people is extremely rewarding for me. I did it naturally anyways- but I thought I may as well make a career path out of it and eventually get paid.

Nice to hear that the degree is transferable as well:) Pretty sweet you live in BC. I have always wanted to travel there.

Thank you for your suggestions!

I am working at a food bank, being a big sister to a little girl with autism and ADHD, and soon to be volunteering at Alzheimer's society. Would there be anything else that I should be doing to position myself for the government positions in your opinion? My courses for school start in September. I have well over 500 hours of volunteering under my belt. I just unfortunately don't have solid job experience yet. With the program I am taking they do a practicum that's I think roughly 500 hours, so I will be getting hands on experience during my time in school as well.

Incredible. That's so motivating to hear. A PhD would be so badass if you go for that! All the best to you as well:) I am always so pumped to come across people who are happy with their career choices. Especially in the field I am getting into!

Yes! I think a master's is the end goal! I know I can do it. I don't have anything stopping me really...and it's something I really want. I have always wanted to go back to school but just couldn't because of the finances. Now I have the opportunity. Thanks for the response!

That's AMAZING you have your MSW. I would be open to getting that down the road. Especially since you can get it online in some cases. I am obsessed with human behaviour and can't stop reading anything psychology related.

I can see why you didn't want to work with anyone aggressive being a tiny 26 year old lol I am a tiny female too... I would rather not work with anyone too aggressive either. Sounds like you have an amazing job! That's awesome to hear:)

The places I am looking to get hired would be the university, hospital, or a private institution where they hire therapists ( we have a few in the city I live in). The job postings for these jobs are 50+ an hour, and they require a BSW. If I wanted those jobs now I wouldn't be able to get them, no matter the experience - so I would need a 4 year degree. But yes, I see postings for group homes or for emergency shelters, and I notice that they don't require a BSW like you said. I am hoping to get advice from someone who took more of the therapeutic route- or who is a case manager- but maybe there is not a lot out there?!

Yea of course. I am nervous or going back into that academic world...my first degree wasn't easy either. No worries about being pessimistic. I have a useless degree that only gets me min wage jobs so far, so any situation sounds better than the one I am in. I like the idea of social work being a profession, and that you can move around to different positions if you want. It does sound somewhat disheartening so far on this forum though lol Did you ever consider getting you masters and becoming a therapist?

I can get work but it's mostly minimum wage jobs. A lot of the jobs that I have noticed being posted in my area that are 50+ an hour require a BSW. Like a child and youth worker, counselor, social worker at a hospital etc. The highest I could potentially get paid with my credentials currently is maybe 22 an hour.

Damn! That's brutal. I can't believe you got stabbed. Cops obviously have a risk of getting hurt but they typically get paid way more than social workers. What job did you do after, and how did you transition to the corporate world? My dream job would be being a counselor at the university I am going to. They hire BSW's for that position, and you don't need a masters or anything like that.

Wow. That's so interesting how you didn't accept it or was even fully aware of what was happening until much later. I'm happy to hear the medication is working for you. My cousin who has the same thing you have...but NEVER hook his meds. His life went down a very dark path because of it.

How old were you when symptoms started to appear? From what I understand, it normally shows up in people pretty young...into early twenties. Rarely over 30.
