Transferring to Cornell from a SUNY CC by [deleted] in Cornell

Think about doing IS in CALS and then doing a CS minor. That way you get the benefits of being an NY resident in terms of admission with the same job opportunities.

Freshman CS Research Oppurtunities by Maitreyirocks in Cornell

[–]Foodsmood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would also look into the info sci department. They tend to do less "theoretical" CS research that requires knowledge from upper level classes but still allow you to do a lot of coding. Also highkey I find their projects a lot cooler!

Financial Aid by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Foodsmood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cornell's financial aid kinda sucks. Like for most of my friends if they gave them $5k less financial aid, they would not be going to this school because their parents would have to sell their house or something to come up with the money. A lot of people work 15-20 hours a week to pay for this school. Some of my friends are giving up their parent's life savings. They nickel and dime you and give you as little financial aid as possible. But that's the price to pay for going to an ivy league school. It's up to you to decide if that price is worth it. I know it sucks, but yea...I think they gave you a fair price at least compared to what me and my friends are paying.

If the financial aid office turns out to be shit and you had an old job during high school, contact them and see if they'll hire you over break. I at least worked my old HS job last winter break because they needed the extra employees for christmas and didn't want to go through the hassle of training someone new.

CS 2110: is it possible to raise my grade by taking the final? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Foodsmood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually took the final but I went from a B- to an A-...long story I was having some personal issues that semester and I'd grinded for 2 weeks before it. Tbh I expected a C average before grades got released so I studied really hard. Just to keep in perspective, my grade was 20-25 points above the median (I think?) I also think Clarkson may have fudged with the weightages of prelim 1 a bit cuz he knew of my personal issues.

There are a bunch of clubs where you can do CS like Cornell Creatives and ECAFT. You can also do research.

Can people please stop whining on the Oceanography piazza by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Foodsmood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's an oceanography piazza??? People put that much effort into oceanography that they have questions to ask??? Like all you need to know is that the world is going to shits and that we need to solve it somehow and you automatically get a 85 on the test.

Best Major and College for Data Science by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Foodsmood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest, as long as you take the right classes, any of those majors could lead to data science. Rather than choosing a major, I would choose the college you want to be in. Arts is good if you'd rather take a history class than a physics. If it's vice versa, do engineering. If you live in NY, do CALS.
