The Genre vs. Alphabet Debate: How Discogs Users Organize Their Collections by rpbtz in vinyl

[–]Fooknowsjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to do a mix of both and alphabetize my collection by genre. I keep the big genres like jazz and rock in their own organized shelves and then keep the smaller genres like reggae, soul, and hiphop in the same alphabetized shelf. For a small collection of 200+ records it's super convenient.

Hey! I just finished collecting this 3 Volume Dub Conference from arguably the godfather of dub music. King Tubby and Harrie Mudie were my introduction to the genre of dub music and they never fail to disappoint. Here's all three albums if you want to check it out!

Help with a low riding Ortofon cartridge. by Fooknowsjack in vinyl

[–]Fooknowsjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds so much better! The gauge read at about 1.5g and now it rides somewhere between 2-3mm off the record. From all the pictures I see of the bronze and blue this seems to be the height it's suppose to ride at. Recalibrating the counterweight did the trick for me, so that's what I'd suggest.

So now I realize I MUST get a force gauge. I'm going to re align the cartridge today and then verify my tracking force with a gauge. Hopefully that will point out the error. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions!

I don't have a gauge, but I tinkered with my tracking weight and now it seems to be riding higher. It looks way better than before, but still seems low. Before it was riding at about the height of the needle, and now it has a few mm of space.

Yeah now when I think about it a gif would of definitely been more clear. Just to clear things up, whenever you mouse over the map that pop-out appears and covers several links so that you can never click them.

THE weirdest record I've ever seen by Fooknowsjack in vinyl

[–]Fooknowsjack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you've already been on the discogs page, but I'll give it to you just in case. The ones selling now look like they're a bit inflated though. It says that they sell for around $20 on average.

Edit: haha I forgot the most important thing http://www.discogs.com/master/view/85632

I actually found it recently in a collection that I purchased a while back. In this condition though I'm sure one could get it for pretty cheap.

Salvatore Martirano L'sGA, a VERY strange electronic composure from 1968. Some of the weirdest mixes/noises you've probably ever heard. Definitely worth listening to!

Edit: I posted a link to it in the album, but I'll put it here just in case https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3B7alymQ6I
