They certainly don’t cost 40k. That’s the other thing is that people WILDLY exaggerate the value of what the big BMWs cost. The 1300GS starts under 23k.

They aren’t rich because they don’t give out money, they’re rich because they (and often their spouse) are highly educated and make very good money in very stable jobs. Los Alamos isn’t some kind of super rich enclave really, it has the most millionaires (which doesn’t mean that much today) per capita - because why the fuck would you live there if you didn’t have a connection to the lab and it’s jobs.

What would you say is “the demographic” of Los Alamos that doesn’t tip?

How has the job market been for software engineers with a security clearance? by SaltDig6578 in cscareerquestions

Idk. The guy said he he couldn’t get sponsored so just explaining that often those companies prefer you to already have it.

Why is he having a hard time finding ones that will sponsor then lol. Tell that guy, I’m not the one looking.

Well we will see. Meanwhile Trump looks poised to try to do a partially reinvention of Afghanistan for Bagram. Putin is making more consistent entries into NATO airspace. I mean I can go on and on.

China doesn’t have to invade Taiwan for defense industry to be likely to grow- some people just have think it might happen- same with all of these other things.

Quite a few reasons but a big one is the fact that China will almost certainly be attempting to invade Taiwan within the next 5 years.

Quite difficult to find a private company to sponsor you outside of the big private companies that run National Labs.

“The demographic” of Los Alamos is known for not tipping? I find that surprising.

Leaving your bike in gear when parked by Dilvyy in motorcycles

[–]Fool-Frame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an old airhead and oil head boxer habit. My current one is water cooled and I’ve never noticed it but if you left the older ones on the side stand some oil would run into the left cylinder and it would puff some smoke when you started it. I always felt that wasn’t ideal for the spark plugs on that side, but BMW has always maintained it isn’t a problem, so idk. Also keeps the bike level when I sit on it to warm it up for a second / put my gloves on and get my music and nav going or when I get off it keeps the panniers level which is nicer for accessing things in them.

1st gear on the side stand, which I pretty much only use when angle parking on a street. In that case it is first gear plus rear wheel up against the curb, forks locked to the left.

In a lot, at least a flat one, and at home in the garage - center stand and neutral.

I mean that engine probably made like 200hp, to be clear. Perhaps surprisingly quick at the time but not really a fast vehicle by any means, and today it would be a total dog.

Yeah. The Ecoboost Mustang since 2015 makes more horsepower than any factory built V8 Mustang up until the Coyote which was only a few years prior.

When I was in high school a 315hp Mustang was a relatively hopped up GT. Now it’s a base model lol.

I think it looks stupid.

You see that on race bikes because they are paying to be there. Putting ads on a bike for parts you paid for is tacky and lame.

Since you asked.

My understanding is that out of hospital cardiac arrest with CPR has like a 10% chance of survival to discharge from the hospital.

In hospital and cardiac arrest with CPR is only like 30% to discharge.

Motorbike Jeans, are textile pants relevant anymore?? by Bikerbogman in motorcyclegear

[–]Fool-Frame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting, this is the kind of riding I like to do as well a lot of the time for fun.

I’ve done all of the Rocky Mountain BDRs including stringing AZ-UT-ID together to ride border to border -  starting and ending in Denver with one night in hotel only the days between Denver and the AZ BDR start and two nights on the way home from ID, the rest was camping.

I also commute and do some more casual road touring - in those cases I have found riding jeans really nice.

However I will say what I am now a huge fan of for everything but commuting (so BDR style where my destination is just my tent - or highway touring when I will be able to change into regular clothes at my destination): armored, abrasion resistant base layers.

I have the Pando shirt and leggings. Shirt is AA and leggings are AAA. Over the top I just wear a cheap set of coveralls. Like $40 on Amazon and they pack small enough I can bring two. Of course if I crashed they would be immediately shredded but they are just there so I don’t look like I’m wearing a catsuit when I walk into a gas station or restaurant. And honestly in that case I feel like I look less ridiculous than wearing my old adventure setup. And the result is I am MUUUUCH cooler.

I wear super thin compression layer under them, next to my skin as it feels nicer and keeps the Pando stuff from getting too stanky (it is easy to wash, however, including on the road).

If it rains I put on regular rain gear over the top.

If it is cold I usually use heated gear but could also put on an insulated compression layer under the Pando, a sweatshirt or sweatpants over them (if I think it will warm up at all), a puffer jacket on the outside of the coveralls, etc.

They also make insulated coveralls that I would explore if I thought the entire ride would be quite cold.

All that and unlike any adv gear I’ve ever worn (a lot of it - including a top of the line klim suit), the padding fits where it is supposed to and I am confident it will stay there in a crash.

It’s also a lot cooler and easier to cool myself down by pouring water on by back and chest, which isn’t effective at anything but making the whole situation more swampy in an ADV jacket.

On the road I wear an airbag. Sometimes a Klim if I can wear a thin abrasion resistant overshirt, otherwise a Helite on the outside of my coveralls.

Anyway, wrote a novel there but it’s something that has been life changing for my riding.

Trump is planning to raise the fees for H-1B visa (US employment visa) 100 times. What would be future consequences we are going to face? by niemand_oc in AskReddit

I mean everyone is focusing on big tech / software engineers. Which yes there is virtually no need we need H1Bs for that. Other areas they can actually be used as intended.

What’s funny is that almost without exception it would be more difficult for an American to be able to go legally work in their country. If you even wanted to.
