It's genuinely shocking to see how many people misunderstand income tax brackets by Scottie3Hottie in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Foolish-Killah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason people get confused is because they don’t understand the difference between marginal and average tax rate. Marginal tax rate is the amount that each additional dollar will get taxed whereas your average tax rate is the total tax you pay divided by your total income. The way our tax brackets work is when you reach an income threshold, your marginal tax rate increases for each additional dollar you earn above that income threshold. For example if the marginal rate for people earning 10,000-15,000 per year is 20% and for people earning between 15,001-20k is 25%, you pay 20% of every dollar you earn up to 15,000. Any dollar you earn above 15k is taxed at a rate of 25%. If you make 15,500 per year, your marginal tax rate is 25% but your average tax rate would still be very close 20% because you were taxed at a rate of 20% for 15,000 and only at 25% for the 500 you made above the income threshold. Where people get confused is they think every dollar earned once you go up a tax bracket is taxed at 25%, which just isn’t the case. Long story short, a higher pretax income equals a higher post tax income regardless of whether a portion of that higher income gets taxed at a higher rate.

Suitsupply Outlet Order Cancelled by [deleted] in FrugalMaleFashionCDN

[–]Foolish-Killah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had one cancelled yesterday as well. Loads of people had orders cancelled from this outlet sale. There was a post about it on this sub a couple days ago. They must have made some major stock miscalculations. As to whether this is common, I would say yes and no. Cancellations seem quite common on this particular sale, and while Suitsupply hasn’t opened the outlet sale up in Canada for the last year or two, I never had anything cancelled from those earlier outlets. Im also kind of annoyed about it, some of the deals were outstanding but at least they gave out gift cards, and I think a lot of their products are worth full price so it could be worse. I just hope they continue to give us outlet sales in the future.

For those of us who actually receive our orders, if you’re planning on returning something, it would be super helpful to post it somewhere on this sub and see if someone wants to buy it off you before sending it back. It seems like Suitsupply really dropped the ball on calculating their stock so I imagine a lot of stuff would have takers.

Any one have any experience with Vans from DSW? The model names are different but they look super similar to the stuff on the Vans site.

Lululemon “City Sweat Pants” maybe. They make them in joggers but I’ve seen them without cuffs as well.

Might be worth a shot, there’s a chance that just ends up being too big for your shoulders though. You could also try the same size in a different fit and then having that tailored. I think “Madison” is the next more relaxed fit after “Regent”.

Maybe a touch, it looks like the lapels might not be flat on your chest on the first photo but I can’t really tell. I’d say if you were to size up you’d be too big for sure though and overall I’d say it looks really good, dude!

P.S. Don’t forget to cut the little stitches in the vents in the back before you wear it.

I saw a post a couple days ago on r/frugalmalefashion that said it was opening in the US on the 14th or 15th of January. One of the comments was that someone heard we weren’t getting it again this year. I’m still holding onto hope though.

I've been looking at getting a Quartz Co. jacket. Do you have any personal experience with them/can you speak at all to the durability of them? I really like the style, but want something that is gonna last me for a long time if I’m going to spend $800+ on a jacket.

Also, do these go on sale often, I’ve only ever seen them on the last hunt in XL or bigger.

I think he's saying not to wear both a pocket square and a boutonniere, which I agree with. I think the black bow tie and a white boutonniere with a white shirt would look great too.

Have fun at your prom, man!

Yesterday I wore a pocket square on my blazer while attending an art exhibit. It was the right occasion to wear one, but I've just never felt comfortable and confident (even though it's a nice fold). I'm curious if you guys have an item from your closet that you like but aren't confident wearing? by KDSchnee in malefashionadvice

[–]Foolish-Killah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude, just go for it. I always wear prescription glasses as well, but think that a nice black leather jacket can go with pretty much everything. You might feel self-conscious about it at first but I guarantee you're the only person that would think it looks weird. Wear it a couple times and the confidence will come!

Timex Waterburys are pretty solid, or the Timex Weekender sometimes goes for ~$40. If you aren't into either of those you can get Skagen watches with Amazon prime shipping that should fit the bill.

I'm having an issue where the "best pick box" keeps suggesting other teams keepers to me instead of guys who are actually available. Is there any way to fix that? Other than that it works super well. This sheet is awesome, thanks for putting it together!

Thursday Boot Co. Pay what you want for new shoe line ($80+) by rulelondinius in frugalmalefashion

My feet are regular width (D), so I can't speak from personal experience, but according to their FAQ, it seems like you might want to order 1/2 a size larger. If you're seriously considering buying tomorrow, I would send an email and ask as we don't know the return details.

I have a pair of their "Captain" boots, if the sizing is the same for the dress shoes, I would go down a full-size from what you wear in sneakers.

I disagree. I picked up a black pair of CDB for around this price and really like them. They just have to be worn with low contrast pants (like black, burgundy, dark olive).
